ComedyFan2010 Having heard that the British version is not as good as the American it took me long time to finally watch this short TV show. I was pleasantly surprised. This show is actually really good. I can't say if American or British version are better until at least I watch the US version again. But I can surely say that this is definitely high class comedy and one should also not forget was the original idea. The show has some great characters. Especially outstanding are David and Gareth who make us laugh in every episode. The humor is clever, with greatly written dialogues and also some nice physical comedy.Besides humor we also have a nice office romance of Tim and Dawn. It is really well portrayed by very realistic looks and moments that show us exactly what the characters are feeling. The Christmas special added a great ending to this wonderful show and gave us the closure that we were lacking after the second season was over.It was planned to be that short but it is a good idea. They put everything important into the episodes and gave us a good picture of this office comedy and people in it.
merelyaninnuendo The OfficeDavid Brent is considered to be one of the most iconic character on television history and the best work of Ricky Gervais and unlike other things this hype is totally deserved and if anything it is underrated. Ricky Gervais defines smart comedy and offers some of his best work to this underappreciated genre something to look forward to by escalating the bar of itself in each and every episode only to come up with one of the best climax ever to be witnessed on television encircling the whole life of it in a short period. Ricky does his homework on his character thoroughly and makes sure he gets proper surrounding and palpable environment for the tone he aspires it to be with a great supporting cast like Martin Freeman and Mackenzie Crook. The Office sets out to introduce petty and practical behaviours among the most genuinely thought out characters written on screen and comes out more mature and human than ever witnessed.
El-Kapitoshka Quite simply wonderfully written and typically British. Well not anymore. This show has literally been imported all over the world it's that good. It has been the blueprint for all other comedies for the past 15 years and will probably continue to be just that for a lot longer yet. Having watched the whole lot over around 40 times, I can of course quote the script well enough, but the layering proves to catch me off guard with other little things I notice each time around. The good news is - Brent is back this summer and my how we have missed Mr Toad. The only sad thing is that none of the others from the original cast will be in it. A must watch.
Brian Todd OMG, looking at the episode listing it's hard to believe this show lasted only two seasons of 14 episodes. That's not even one season of the American version that lasted 9 seasons. I think that shows the difference between the American and British ways of doing television. American writers, producers, and actors are hard working to a fault. The office was the show that would not die long after it should have, squeezing every dollar out of the ratings. While the British show was a bit lazy. How could Gervais have cut such a classic so short? One of the funniest sitcoms of all time David Brent is one of the great comedy characters. I don't think Gervais will ever match the heights of genius of this. Also a great supporting cast.
