1. Love the character of Miss Parker. I'm fed up with the dumb shallow bimbo female leads. 2. I love the B side of the story, much more intriguing then the Jarod beats up the bad guy every week, while those entrapped within the Centre fight for the lives and their sanity. 3. I like Sci fi, and although there are no space craft, there is the cloning, the 1984ish. Fahrenheit 451 touch of evil. 4. It has a great ensemble cast. I can't see the show without anyone of them. 5. The actors have made the characters their own. ex. Andrea Parker OWNS Miss Parker, as to Michael T Weiss own Jarod. Or Jon own Broots or Patrick own Sydney. 6. You never know what to expect from one episode to the other. You go one week from a heart wrenching scene to a rather off the cuff scene with Mr. Wiggles. (April Fools show) 7. Great writing for the most part. 8. I can watch the show over and over and even though I know my favorite episodes by heart they never seem dated to me. 9.There is nothing on TV that challenges this show, even yet. Alias tried but got too tied up with soft meaningless episodes. 10. Did I mention: Great acting, great writing, and a very unique story. and of course Miss Parker.

This is one of my all time favorite shows.I loved watching all 4 seasons (again-yrs after I watched it on TV) all over again. I really wish that the network didn't take the show off after the 4th season. There are still a lot of unanswered questions that i'm sure a lot of people would like to know. Esp. me. And just to let you know, Michael is very HOT to watch! The cast also deserves a great big HECK YEA for a great job keeping my eyes glued to the TV screen. M.T.W and Andrea make a great team. Keep up the good work on your next projects. Hope to see you do a TV movie or BIG time screen movie. We want to see a happy ending for Jarod and Ms. Parker. And it would be nice to see Michael T's HOT body again. :0) A fan for life, Shannon

This show started out as a mid-season replacement in '96 on NBC. However, The "Pretender" went on to prove its worth in the prime-time ratings-game, season after season. The "Pretender" could best be summed-up as part of a sub-genre of the Action-adventure category; the Chase-show. The Chase-show always revolves around one basic plot-line; the main character(s) are running from, and/or to someone, or something. These Chase-shows can be some of the worst on TV, or some of the best. The "Pretender" falls into the latter category, in my humble opinion. The main character in the series, Jared, was kidnapped as a child, and whisked away to a heinous organization called the "Centre". Jared happens to be a genius, and he's used by those at the "Centre", to create ingenious methods to destroy their enemies. As an innocent child, who'd been swiped from his family, Jared has no choice but to go along with those at the "Centre", who exploit his genius IQ.As an adult, and by then fully aware of the exploitation he'd been forced to endure by the "Centre" during his childhood, Jared escapes. He's pursued by his former mentor (and former father-figure) Sydney. Joining in the quest to capture Jared, are the rabidly-determined femme-fatale, Miss Parker, and her computer-whiz henchman, Broots. Jared manages to elude his would-be captors, by impersonating a different member of a profession in each episode. Throughout the series, Jared had posed as a doctor, lawyer, policeman, airline pilot, etc., etc., etc. One of the main reasons the show held my interest, was to see who Jared would impersonate in the next episode. Whenever Jared morphed into one professional or another, he got to help out others in trouble, while keeping one-step-ahead of his pursuers from the "Centre". Jared also kept trying to find out about, and get in contact with, his real family, during the course of the series. As someone who had been cruelly wrenched away from his family in childhood, he was a man determined to solve the puzzle of his past. Then, there was also the sub-plot running through this series. This involved how Sydney, Miss Parker, and Broots, were all just pawns of the "Centre" themselves. The real evil character in the show, and the one who had orchestrated Jared's childhood kidnapping, was Mr. Raines. As the series progressed, Miss Parker, Sydney and Broots, together tried to figure out just what the sinister "Centre" was up to, and how to stop it. This all made for an Adventure-show with much more depth, and character-development, than most of its ilk.Overall, I'd say the that, "Pretender" was the best of all the Adventure-series, which were on TV during the 90s.

I expect there will be a surprising change in the next season. There were enough such characters in Jarod'life. There's been many shows over the years featuring a nomadic character who helps people as he goes about his journey, but THE PRETENDER is probably my favorite of the bunch.Maybe the story should put more focuses on the relationships with the Center& his family. The secret of the Center should be exploded----the-top-three.Miss.parker and her family should have a end.The DVD set(1-3 season)can be found in China now.By the way,I do not appreciate Michael'long hair figure.
