admatha-767-524200 I have no complaints with the acting in this movie - in fact the acting was the only part that I really enjoyed. The story itself was awful. It's a great example of why I hate Lost and how heavily it has continued to influence serial television - Lost was popular, let's do the Lost thing of never telling our audience anything. Well, I despised Lost and I stopped watching it in the second season, and I despise Lost for making it so that every television show I watch feels the need to continue drawing things out for ever and ever and ever and ever. I thought that perhaps 6 episodes would be tolerable but no, even six feels like forever. At 40 minutes an episode it works out to 4 hours, and as someone who felt BBC's Pride & Prejudice was the perfect length, let me tell you - The Prisoner *felt* like about a hundred. I kept thinking "I get the feeling this would have worked excellently as a movie" but actually I was wrong, because, whether you've just sat through 2 hours or 4 hours or 2 seasons, the ending is *bad*. And I do not refer to being unsatisfied that it wasn't a happier ending, I refer to being unsatisfied with it *as* an ending. I am irritated that I kept going in the hopes that eventually something would happen but no, all that happens is that eventually we get a wishy-washy half-assed "science!" explanation for everything that has been going on and ... that's it. I went and read the synopsis of the original show - which I kind of wish I'd done beforehand, might have saved me some time - and it appears that viewers then had as frustrating and rage-inducing a finish as viewers of the remake have. All I can say is that as much as I like Ian McKellan, I'd like my 4 hours back, please.
stanleyhall-163-576736 The first three times I did not quite understand it the fourth time I liked it. Mind you I was home sick with phenomena for over a week, it was actually double phenomena so I think I kept drifting in and out of this movie I was watching. Which is why I watched it so many times but not only did I enjoy it I loved it..............Loved the old guy Ian the great thing is the whole in the ground when the child fell in now that was heart wrenching but it was real good as it brought tears to my eyes at least and hell I was sick for most of this viewing. It was on for at least a week or so I am unsure how many episodes that there are if anybody know let me know. I read that there are 360 Minutes I believe that's only four hours I watched this for way more then four hours. I am sure it was at least fifteen hours or longer but it could include commercials.CheersStan 100% Canadian and dam proud of it.
Brent Trafton A lot of people seem to dislike the AMC mini-series reboot of "The Prisoner" because it bears so little resemblance to the original British series from the 1960's. While the original series was certainly ground breaking at the time, doing a faithful remake in the 21st century would be silly. The original took place during the cold war and number 6 was a spy. That would be out of place in today's world. Instead, the mini-series has to do with corporate espionage and has more in common with "Inception," or "The Matrix" than it does with the original series.Ian McKellen alone makes this worth watching. He is gleefully evil. Hayley Atwell is a relative newcomer but I think we will be seeing more of her in the future. She has the makings of becoming a full fledged star. James Caviezel is decent but I felt they should have had someone a bit stronger for the lead role. Ruth Wilson is another new discovery. I hope we see more of her in the future.I was kind of disappointed at how the original series had ended. I thought it was too simple. I really like the twist in the final episode of the mini-series. I felt it made a lot more sense in the context of the story. If you are willing to watch "The Prisoner" without the preconceptions of the original series, there is a good chance you will enjoy it.
PaulLondon Some things become 'cult' items because they really are quirky, fascinating one offs. Case in point was the brilliant 60s TV series The Prisoner which took the very popular spy genre of the time and threw it into a psychedelic whirlpool of eccentricity. The result is delirious! A gloriously of its time piece of pop art TV. And then there's the remake. Jim Cavaziel said that he didn't watch the original prior to shooting. Maybe he should have done and then he could have seen what a pigs ear all concerned were making with this banal TV by numbers dirge. Where the original was playful, occasionally silly and constantly creative; this feels like TV by committee. Dull and misguided. Whatever next? A remake of the Wicker Man? Oh......
