kerchelnate On seeing the names of the main characters in this series I had high hopes of an excellent, witty sitcom. Instead I got a low class, stereo-typing piece of trash. When you have watched the first episode you have watched the entire series. What plot line there is is not credible. The huge talents of McKellan, Jacobi and De La Tour are wasted on inane drivel and drag-queen bitchiness. As a gay man I had hoped that we were past this sort of drivel but clearly not. Sir Ian McKellan has been at the forefront of gay rights for many years, and it shocks me that he then chooses to take part in something that would have been thought funny in the 1970's. McKellan and Jacobi should hang their heads in shame.
dotjames-70221 Celia Imrie, known for the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel movies, plays La Tour's sister in one episode. She is not mentioned in the cast list. I really don't have a lot to say, otherwise, about the series. This was the only place I could find to mention the omission. I have always enjoyed Jacobi's work, esp. I, Claudius and more recently Last Tango in Halifax & think his talents are a bit wasted in Vicious. All in all, the comedy is a pleasant way to kill a half-hour without expending any brain power on it. I'm not particularly impressed with the actor who plays Ash. He's not handsome or impressive enough for all the oo-ing & ah-ing the elders do over him.
kikkapi20 Vicious is hilarious! Not in its pantomime/farcical plots and set-ups you can see coming for a mile, but in the throwaway lines ("don't touch the cheese, it's only for show") and the interactions between the characters. It's my guilty pleasure. I laughed and laughed at this episode. The actors are really into their stride now. They're obviously enjoying their craft and having a whale of a time. It's the reverse of Grace and Frankie where an astounding cast participate in a good-looking but empty-of-heart show. Vicious looks tacky but under the catty veneer there is a real affection for the tragedy of the human condition. And, of course, theatrical tradition.
kitten1504 I have seen a lot of bad reviews on here of this, most of them stemming from the united states (which does not surprise me), so I thought I would put across my opinion.I, personally, think this is absolutely brilliant. Razor sharp humour from everyone, some people may think it is a bit outdated but I think that adds to the charm of the show. There is lovely, hateful chemistry between Sir Ian and Sir Derek. The repartee of the two leads is just utterly fantastic and hilarious, and not forgetting the supporting cast who are just as brilliant. Overall I think that this old school sitcom is one of the best to come out of England in a very long time.
