noaprevilon This movie was super trash and basic. Hillary Duff was really annoying in the beginning and extremely bratty. I don't know what it feels like to be sent away to my grandparents house because my mother wants to work on her marriage but it doesn't seem that bad considering the fact they live by the beach with a boardwalk! Everything was just so typical. A white brat who doesn't get what she wants, becomes "suicidal" meets a guy and then everything is okay. I didn't finish the movie but didn't need to. The grandmother warns her not to go to asbury park and of course the rebel that she's trying to be ends up going there. It is what it is every one knows any bad neighbor would consume black people. So the moment they show one black person in this movie is when Hillary steps into the hood. Producers try to play it off by first introducing a white guy (who also could have been hispanic) drive past her fast in a car. But a few seconds later here comes the black people on bikes trying to pursue her and only 3 seconds later a fight breaks out and then the cherry on top a black cop notices her and feels sentimental. So as the cop is breaking up the fight he's thinking "I need to get her home" wtf. Wow. This was just too corny.
studioAT Hillary Duff was a big deal when I was growing up, through her singing and various teen films. She hasn't really made that transition to adult film actor, but films like this will go some way to that happening. It's not a great film you understand, but it at least shows that Duff can play some serious moments, and this film is refreshingly different in terms of content and tone. It's not widely known, but is well worth watching.
muzzbo This may not be a very long review but I think it is one worth reading. Everyone is saying how it is good acting but I am insulted! Overall it is a good film but as a teenager myself who is suffering from depression and suicidal thought myself, I feel that this film has portrayed this type of person completely wrong! I am in almost the same situation as Greta but I am disgusted by the way that chose to act out her role! If she really was suicidal she would not be telling everyone like that! She would be hiding it inside and killing herself quietly! She would show more signs of depression like food disorders, or even just depression! I cannot bring myself to understand how someone who was suffering from such a severe illness would then be able to throw it all away at the end and just be 'fine'!
jane diaz I really liked this movie. I am 58 years old and got into Hilary Diff with my daughter watching Lizzie Mcguire. (my daughter is 15 now) I am happy to see her whenever I do. I thought the scene with Ellen Burstyn and Duff at the end when she explains to Greta how much life's experiences enrich you and make you who you become was truly touching. I think this is a great film for teenagers who think they know everything. I don't think Duff is the best actress ever but she stole our hearts playing Lizzie and we will always enjoy watching her. I hope she gets the chance to blossom as an actress...I think she's a great role model and still love her. Don't know why this little film got no notice...I think it's a gem. Oh and the notebook...the animations were FABULOUS!!! so true to what a young talented person might keep. I loved the notebook, really excellent work!
