markmenachem-621-220699 Lizzie Brochere was just about perfect. With her excellent command of the English language that sometimes needed subtle correction, to her vulnerability and an inner sadness that made you want to hold and protect her, she was great. I would see anything she was in. Her counterpart, writer/director Schaeffer, was annoying. As a struggling, depressed, overly self-absorbed writer, he apparently had one extremely successful novel and could never achieve the same level of success again. Lizzie relates that she did read his novel and found it wonderful, revealing an intimate, sensitive, honest portrait of the writer. Somehow, the qualities that he exhibited back then were long gone. He was anything but lovable, happy, confident or worthy of this much younger woman's love and admiration. Also, he was broke and owed hundreds of thousands of dollars and still had the use of a dozen credit cards. The teenage girl that Lizzie was caring for was also excellent. As for the gypsy woman and her young son, they were very believable to me. If you are depressed or impatient, do not watch this movie, unless you cheer up when you see that other people can be a lot more screwed up than you are.
shanna-282-519920 After Fall, Winter isn't a perfect movie, but the levels it goes to examine relationships at their most delicate hits home with anyone. Schaeffer has an amazing ability to create three dimensional characters who's flaws and problems feel real. To me that is the best of After Fall, Winter - the characters and world created. We don't have heroes with "first world problems," we have people we have seen in our everyday lives, right up there on the screen. The cast did an amazing job at accomplishing this task. A very impressive character study, I would recommend this film to anyone sick of watching rich people fall in love in NYC and live happily ever after (which I hope is the majority of film lovers).
jruby70 This film is dark and very honest and it moved me very much. I have been a long time fan of Fall, which now seems like a trip to the candy store after getting my heart broken in After Fall, Winter. You can see the years and growth from the director in this one and it is a sadly beautiful look at one's life and how we all hold a lot of pain within ourselves and we should actually share this and be honest about it. It is beautifully shot in Paris, which, like New York always seems to look good on film. There are a great deal of movies filled with fluff, but this movie just gets right to the point. With life and love, things are not always pretty and quite difficult. We can learn something about ourselves in this one. It's romantic, it's brutal, go see this film.
sashailic222 I've never been too much of a fan of Romantic films, simply because watching two character's go through the same song and dance as they do in most romantic films, bores me to death. This film was so refreshing to watch because, through it's entirety, it never lies to you. Most of the time love is hard and it makes you sick. Although it feels beautiful it hurts. This film doesn't just show the viewer the truth, it punches them right in the stomach with it. The greatest films I've ever seen (at least in my opinion) are the ones that stay with you days after you've finished them. Whether it's being joyful, sad, or uncomfortable, it has left you feeling SOMETHING and left you contemplating it over and over. This definitely was one of them! From the dialog to the visuals, this movie was so incredibly moving and beautiful. I'm so glad that all my anticipation for it's release was not met with even an ounce of disappointment. I really appreciate this film and hope that many other's will as well!
