The Grand Master After spotting this in the Video Store, I thought I'd check this flick out. After 20 minutes, I had realised I had made a major mistake. This movie is extremely pathetic. I don't know what the makers were thinking, but it looked like a amateur home video with actors just plucked off the street. The acting was poor and the plot is just horrible. It seemed like that ideas were just made up as the movie went along. The director seemed like he had no clue on making this movie. After half an hour of wasted time, I had to stop the movie. This atrocity was just too much for me.Don't even look at the cover of the movie, don't even consider hiring it, just keep looking elsewhere for better entertainment.1/10.
jrumann Was it Sidney Furie that directed this or Michael Moore. This is by far the most left leaning anti-war movie about Iraq I have ever scene. I put it up there with anti-war propaganda like MASH, and Over There. The plot is transparent, the regards the troops had for orders and protocols were hilarious at best. The acting was the best part of the movie but only by 1 star more. It is pathetic that this piece of propaganda is so blatant, either liberals are getting dumber, and need the message out in the open, or finally the liberal directors brains have been fried from years of hallucinogens. Please liberals if you are going to make a anti-war movie please disguise it better so all can enjoy and the message doesn't ooze of the screen so us warmongers can enjoy it also.
subbway Although I agree this movie was preachy and had no shortage of plot holes, I think most of these comments were way to harsh. Sure the acting was bad and it did look like they pulled most of these guys out of the local high school, but isn't that how the military finds most of their young men and women. Also if it looked like most of these soldiers had never held a gun before that's probably because they never have, they are just actors after all. And to all those service men who have left comments remember not everyone is in the army and thats who this movie was made for: civilians. Sure the Humvees took dozens of RPGs, but this would be a very short movie if everyone died in the first 15 minutes.(I did think the part in the police station was the biggest loophole. When the RPG took out the side of the building and blew everyone away but when the guys were in a Humvee they wouldn't even be phased by an RPG.) Also if if it seemed like they got into way to many firefights in one day, thats because they had to make the movie interesting. If the movie was just them fighting one truck load of Iraqis for 15 minutes then doing nothing but driving for the other 75 minutes what would be the point. If you wanna watch a high budget Hollywood block buster of people doing nothing but trekking for 2 hours go watch lord of the rings. To all these so called movie buffs who think there movie experts because they work at Mcdonald's all day then spend the rest of their time watching movies. Just because you were an extra in the movie of the week being filmed down the road of your small town doesn't make you Roger Ebert. Remember not everyone is Spielberg and has 120 million to spend making a movie.(Anyone know the budget on this movie?)Furie has made more movies then any of you and i give him respect for making a movie that went somewhere no else was willing to go.
Ed Malone I was a platoon sergeant serving my second tour of duty in Iraq when this p-i-s-s poor movie came out. My platoon operated in the worst district of Tall Afar, which was one of the most notoriously volatile cities in Iraq in 2005. Trust me when I say we saw urban combat almost daily. That is until we launched a massive offensive dubbed Operation Restoring Rights and retook the city. Anyway, my Soldiers and I got wind of this movie and had to check it out ourselves. I'll tell you right now, we didn't have a good laugh like that in a long time. Where do I begin? Should I start with how much the actors sucked? Should I start with how ridiculously unrealistic each situation they faced was handled and portrayed? I mean seriously. Any Soldier who has seen real combat action in Iraq will quickly dismiss this joke of a movie. It's great for a good laugh, but that's about it. If I start on what's wrong with this movie I'll never finish this review. If you're a clueless civilian, you might actually find this movie enjoyable. If you're a combat Soldier who has spent more than a few minutes outside the wire, you'll find this movie great to make fun of at best. The director, writer, executive producer, producer, and film distributor should all be ashamed for dishing out this trash. You want to see reality? Check out me and my guys in a Discovery Channel documentary airing in February 2007 called Combat Zone The Battle of Tal Afar (2005). THAT'S how it really goes down.
