Justin Keeblah I am a huge fan of the AVGN. I still like to watch his videos and still keep up. I actually bought this on vimeo a few years back and I wanna say it is awful. I understand it was a low budget film but that has absolutely nothing to do with its bad writing. The Angry Video Game Nerd was funny, but this movie was like pre-school humor.Maybe if I were like 7 I would've been rolling at this movie, but it's awful. The plot was interesting but the humor is not there. I give it 3 stars because he succeeded at making an extremely cringy masterpiece.
Grim9999 I'm a fan of the AVGN and respect him for making his movie and getting it out. Unfortunately the film is not what I and some others had hoped for, even with conservative expectations. Here is a summary of the good and bad aspects: THE GOOD:The sound has a nice clarity to it and the practical effects were funny at times - the models, costumes, soundtrack and sound effects in this movie had some decent effort put into them.THE BAD:Plot - Way too many plot points, at times it seems like the plot was written by an overexcited kid. This movie includes plot points involving: an evil corporation, reviewing games, hoaxes, zombies, a double agent girl, Area 51, evil military, aliens and a giant god (the poorly thought out Death Mwauthzyx). Just one or two plot points should have been the focus, instead it is needlessly convoluted. Acting - No one seems to be taking this seriously. It's meant to be fun, but don't treat it like a school play, at least give a proper performance that is serious when needed. The actors play it like a kids movie. James has a large adult fan base, so why make the screenplay and acting so childish? Also a major issue is that James himself sometimes looks so uncomfortable on screen that it's painful to watch.Writing - The humour is often lame and juvenile - eg. when the military Humvee blows up from hitting a pane of glass... Zandor's long, boring speech with a ton of exposition and clumsy foreshadowing. Cooper pushes the nerd early on, then suddenly tells him to give up and go home - inconsistent writing that is annoying to watch. Character names, including - Cockburn, McButter and Dark Onward - these are supposed to be funny? Cinematography - Many of the shots outside are overexposed; color balance and brightness is off too, to the point where the film often looks ugly.Overall - The movie should have been a lot better and also not so juvenile. I expected more from James - someone who has made short films and analyzed feature length films for years. Seemingly no one he worked with offered honest feedback and instead just agreed with him during the production. Because of all the reasons mentioned in this review, this movie really misses the mark unfortunately.
Jose Miguel Loreto James Rolfe, is what I believe to be the best you tuber around. His latest creation AVGN is such a radical web series. Even better than the Nostalgia Critic. Okay maybe the critic was fine, but the nerd is top notch. But if someone told you that there's a film based on the web series, you'd definitely say... WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?Yeah, that's this isn't the film that captured what the AVGN was all about. Okay well maybe it did, but only slightly. So we all know the nerd is famous on the internet, but why does work at a game store if he's famous? Who knows. But then he realizes that he has to review this parody of the infamous Atari game E.T. In the film, the burial of the cartridges was said to be an urban legend. WHAT?!That happened in real life. I even found a video proving that the games were in fact buried in the desert. So basically the nerd's goal is to review this game if he finds the games under the sand. But they're are times where film loses focus, saying that it also includes alien stuff. Even the effects are lame, was it really that difficult to hire an expert in special effects? Also most the acting is a bit lame, and what's even worse is that the nerd stays in character the whole time, even if Rolfe pulled off an amazing performance. The only thing good about the film, is the soundtrack. Why? Because it's a combination of game music and electric music. So epic. But that isn't strong enough to safe the film. Stick to the internet Rolfe, you may be descent filmmaker in your web series, but you're not ready to make movies just yet. So that's Game Over for you.
danblukk I have no clue why this movie is receiving such hate, were people going into it expecting The Shawshank Redemption or something.People saying it's cheesy and the effects are laughable, errr that's what they were aiming for, then start comparing it to other low budget films like Napoleon dynamite which was a weird creepy piece of crap.I'm not going to go into the plot and the acting performances you can see for yourself. One thing I was a little confused about was why they changed the names and covers of some games like they couldn't get the rights for them or something. To me this just seemed like a feature length AVGN episode defo worth a watch for nerd fans.
