Synopsis

Imagine walking down the street and finding an unmarked VHS tape. Curiosity piqued, you take it home and pop it in. What starts off as two men screwing around with a video camera quickly transforms into an ultra-realistic torture sequence where the unidentified psychopaths tape their exploits as they torment and violate a woman tied to a chair.

irishviking21 There's a reason they filmed this with the worst quality possible. I ate a sandwich while watching every "brutal" scene (minus the fake vomit, bc that's the most realistic and sickening thing). Pay attention to when they move the camera away, then what happens once it's back. Take the scene with the two girls. Why does the blonde look like she's literally had blood streaks painted on her (no wound would ever cause those oddly perfect lines of blood running down almost her entire body), yet in the previous scene (yep, before camera cut), she's got nothing on her but whatever she spit out of her mouth to look like vomit?!? Now, it really turns into a comedy when they (again) cut away from the brunette and then back to her just in time for him to cut into her abdomen. I mean she wasn't a small girl, but why has her stomach become massive suddenly? Go look. It looks like she's suddenly 9-months along. Then, that scene that probably grossed so many out...when he sliced into her. You would have to have ZERO knowledge of the internal organs of a human to believe whatever he was pulling out looked like her bowels. The poor camera helps their attempt, but he's pulling things out that look like they could be several spleens or kidneys?!?! Do not let the fact that it's grungy and dirty everywhere make you think these effects are realistic. Watch the camera, and what it doesn't show!
nzswanny I have no problem against a gory film, as long as it has some sort of message or story behind it, and I was actually looking forward to watching this, because one review stated that the second one was an "anti-socialist's wet dream." I myself don't like to socialize very much, so I thought I was going to love this film.Well, the film isn't bad because of the disturbing violence, it's bad because the disturbing violence is the only reason the creators made this film. This film has no good acting, no good direction, basically nothing...the only thing it does have is violence that looks realistic. Basically, the purpose of this film is just to shock people. Yes, it is very disturbing indeed, but it's pretentious, and it was basically kissing controversy's ass. What makes this a bad film, however, is the fact that August Underground was displaying all this purely for the sake of causing controversy. Sure, it's a very controversial film, and quite disturbing, but it's on purpose...and for entertainment. But hey, it still remains one of the most disturbing movies of all time.I think an actual plot may of made this a better film. However, if you're a sicko that doesn't care about plot and just wants to see someone get raped, go watch this.
blohmjob I've gotta say, I was caught off guard with the level of unexpected and graphically disturbing violence as well as the behaviour of the main characters throughout this film. I expected another Murder-Set-Pieces, which I'd found to be average in every sense other than the level of gory violence. Honestly, being a lifelong horror fan, this was exactly what I was looking for. I'm f***king sick of the cookie-cut creature/monster/slasher horror movies to have been released for the vast majority over the past 20 odd years. I wanted something that could actually freak me out; the killer next door who could be the most average unassuming type of person. I found the (few) moments through the film where the inner psychology of these characters is expressed, to be surreal. And not just killers, but disturbed and spontaneously aggressive who get off especially on torturing and mutilating their victims in horrible ways (which sometimes even make THEM sick to their stomachs). This is the kind of horror of which I had been hoping the future would bring... something that is dark, twisted, sickening and most frightening of all, possible. 6.5/10
lulu-scrumptious I'd heard a lot about this film so decided I had to check it out for myself. I was expecting it to be extremely violent and sickening and one of the most shocking films I had seen. It didn't live up to my expectations one bit, in fact it bored me. There wasn't much violence in it, but instead a lot of random video of nothing and half the time it was hard to tell what was even on screen. I know it's supposed to look like a homemade video but their camera must have been from the 80's. There wasn't much sex involved in the film either. If you're looking for a really shocking film, don't believe the hype with this one.
