Joe Miller This was another movie that Neflix had listed under Horror films so I figured I would watch it. This is one of those movies that feels like it is longer than it actually is and is actually somewhat difficult to sit though. It isn't that it wasn't good at all it's that I didn't really care for the characters. As in I didn't care who died and who lived. Also this movie was quite predictable and I didn't really get shocked from anything in it which is never good in a Horror movie in my honest opinion. Although I didn't give this a high rating I still liked some parts. I give "Blackout" a 5 out of 10~Joe
liamhorne-961-700606 there are some good things about this film like the flash backs which build really help you get to know the characters and also help to break up the film as unlike Phone booth I don't believe this film would have worked as just being set in the same confined space for over an hour. The tension is also well acted. Lastly but possibly not as important is the theme tune at the beginning which I loved and thought worked really well with the images on the opening titles. Now for the bad points the amount of time that they were stuck in the lift was a little unrealistic and ending also seemed a little bit rushed. Overall though a good film and an OK way to pass some spare time you might have.
dbborroughs Three people with places to be end up in an elevator in a blackout. The trouble is all of them have secrets one of which is that they are crazy. Really well made film, it has some dynamite visuals, is undone by uneven acting (Amber Tamblyn is hot and cold) and a plot that really makes no sense no matter which way you look at it (The bricked up elevator shaft makes no sense no matter how you explain it). Based on a book I'm going to be certain that this is a film that should have remained as a book. It just never makes any real world sense, even allowing for it to be a movie. Those looking for visuals to steal for their own films are directed to give the film a shot, all others are best taking the stairs.
mcr_87 Blackout (2007) – This was a pretty average thriller, which saw three very different personalities get trapped in a lift together at an abandoned apartment block. As they're trying to devise a plan to escape a series of flashbacks play out showing the previous 24 hours and revealing the various reasons behind them all needing a quick escape from their predicament. The main theme behind the film is that your first impressions are not always correct but it all plays out a bit predictably and is ultimately unsatisfying. The premise itself has potential but the characters seem too one-dimensional and some of the acting is pretty wooden. Distinctly average. ****** 6/10.
