torstensonjohn View this film at your own discretion. It is gratuitously garbage, BUT in the style of grindhouse films. A term used to describe a movie that sacrifices the traditional film-making concepts such as good acting, character development, production values, creative directing and an understandable plot outline in favor for sex, gore, nudity, violence and other shocking themes. The term originates from the word used to describe theatres that were known to screen such movies. Think Quinten Tarantino or Robert Rodriguez style films. The format comes across comic book style, blood spatter is ridiculously colorful and plenty. The editing style seems to have been lost in places and the sound mix is mediocre. The plot, well, it's lame attempt at creativity is lost upon the audience. A century old curse, a woman sentenced to break the curse of werewolves, vampires and zombies, Satan. The zombies are comical in appearance. From the 23 minute mark I literally forced myself to continue as a film watcher. I feel dumber for actually watching this masterpiece of garbage. 2/10
sgcim Although it didn't have the greatest plot, there was some really funny dialogue and good comedic acting in this, even though the presence of Ron Jeremy can hardly be called a plus in any movie. The camera work was pretty imaginative, especially in the scene where the nerdy looking woman with horn rimmed glasses and the guy she secretly admired were surrounded by the zombies. The camera circled around them very quickly, creating a psychedelic atmosphere which really stood out in the film. The characters were very likable, including the comic book nerd, the hippie chick, the Rasta technician, the pretentious film director and the blonde promiscuous girl, who had some good comedic ability. The director seems to be modeling himself on Robert Rodriguez by writing, directing, and even performing and writing the score to the film in the same grind house genre that Rodriguez sometimes does.
Sean Daniel This is one of those films that's not going to win an Academy Award, but it's going to be around for a long time. A parody of the films of the 70's, much like The Rocky Horror Show, this one is full of all of the fun monsters of the 70's and is surely destined to pop up again and again on late night television. If you're just looking for a fun time, this one is a "no-brainer"!In case you bought one of the earlier ones, there was a sound problem with the film and all of the copies had to be recalled and replaced with one with the proper mix. So if you do have one of the copies released in the first batch. contact the company and they'll replace it at no charge.
paultagonist Blood Moon Rising's a fun enough flick, if not packed with a few too many elements. Zombies are only part of the horror-creatures here: we also have werewolves, vampires, Satan, Satan's minions.. even skeleton-alien-zombies. It gets a bit confusing. As does the plot. From what I can gather, Satan's great-great-great-great granddaughter has to save Earth from Satan's daughter, Lucy. Lucy wants to destroy Earth (for some reason), and.. might need a book bound in human skin to do so? I'm not sure, but only a virgin - comic-book nerd Darrell - can save the day. Oddly enough, only a virgin can help Lucy obtain the book as well. Along the way, there's zombies and biker gangs and vampires and werewolves (though it's difficult to distinguish the last two), all in a glorious cluster**** of a movie. It doesn't help that the audio is extremely out of whack. I was continually turning the volume waaay up to hear some of the dialogue, then, seconds later, waaay back down when the loud music track kicked back in. Very annoying. Also, it's shot in a grindhouse-style, with artificial dirt and lines on the film. That's all right, I guess, since the movie takes place (mostly) in 1969, but they could've gone farther to really get a grindhouse feel. There's a few - blessedly few - shots of pisspoor CGI, which of course, runs counter to making it feel like a grindhouse flick. The movie is definitely a character-driven piece and there's nothing if not.. rememberable characters. The geek inside me could relate to the on screen-geek saying, in reference to a zombie apocalypse, "I've been waiting my whole life for this," as he all-too-seriously mows down zombies. Oh, and speaking of characters, Ron Jeremy has a very small role, maybe 30 seconds of screen time. Not that his name gave the movie added cred or something though.Even with all its faults, it's simply a good time. It's almost a spoof of zombie-Satan-vampire-werewolf movies.
