ismailje I have watched this movie, i don't know how many times, but each time i felt that watching it first time. The pair of Matthew and mandy for this movie is perfect, both have played their part very well. The music, especially base songs are great, soon i will watch this movie again.
studioAT Somewhere in Hollywood around 2003 someone obviously thought it was time to remake 'Roman Holiday' for the noughties, and that thought became 'Chasing Liberty', a film that apes that classic film for all it's worth. It's not a bad film, it has some charm. Mandy Moore carries the film a lot better than she would do later in 'License to Wed' and Matthew Goode plays a sarcastic Brit well. In fact he would later play a very similar role in the Amy Adams vehicle 'Leap Year', a film he'd later slate. It's one of those teen rom-com's though where the supporting characters steal the show, and in this case it's Jeremy Piven as a FBI agent. It's not an overly original film, but it has some nice enough moments.
wes-connors Like many other 18-year-old well-built beauties, Mandy Moore (as Anna Foster) wants to get drunk and have sex (after meeting the right guy, of course). Trouble is, she's the President of the United States' daughter. Codenamed "Liberty", Ms. Moore can't catch any privacy with US Secret Service agents protecting her tail. When Moore steps up her efforts to escape from the omnipresent agents, poppa President Mark Harmon decides to covertly keep an eye on his wayward daughter by assigning good-looking young agent Matthew Goode (as Ben Calder) to pretend he's Moore's understanding companion."Chasing Liberty" may have been a reaction to "partying" sisters Barbara and Jenna Bush, daughters of then US President George W. Bush. They are recalled as such, but the attractive "girls" were not teenagers; they were young women during their father's tenure. A Bill Clinton "sex joke" clearly indicates the Bush era is represented. The film itself is recognizable as a tired old plot, enlivened mainly by the attractive locations and Moore. Mr. Goode makes a fine partner for her. A smart father wouldn't hire tall, dark, and handsome Goode, with his sexy accent, to guard Mandy Moore, without considering the inevitable.***** Chasing Liberty (1/7/04) Andy Cadiff ~ Mandy Moore, Matthew Goode, Jeremy Piven, Annabella Sciorra
Michael_Elliott Chasing Liberty (2004) * 1/2 (out of 4) Why am I watching a Mandy Moore film? I could easily blame it on my girlfriend but the truth is that I took a couple DVD-Rs into work but neither of them would play so I borrowed this from a (female) co-worker. In the film, Moore plays the daughter of the President of the United States and she's tired of having the Secret Service follow her around so she runs away, meets a photographer (Matthew Goode) and decides to live life for the first time. What she doesn't know is that the photographer is also a Secret Service agent hired by her father (Mark Harmon). Look, I can enjoy a great chic flick but this here is one of the worst I've ever seen. It doesn't help that Moore has the acting abilities of a corpse as she really brings this film down. She's not romantic, she's not sweet and she's not funny. Those three strikes really hurt a romantic comedy. Goode isn't any better but at least he doesn't come off as a complete idiot. Supporting players Jeremy Piven and Annabella Sciorra hold the film together somewhat but their romantic sub-plot is equally stupid. The film kicks off with Tom Petty's American Girl and this here is certainly the highlight.
