Michael Ledo Nathan (Larry David) works for Electron Motors, an up and coming electric car company. When the owner (Bill Hader) decides to name the car "Howard" Nathan objects and quits the company. When the "Howard" becomes the next greatest innovation, Nathan become the brunt of national humor. Nathan changes his name to go live a quiet life on Martha's Vineyard...until his former boss decides to live there too.The comedy was light and the Chicago music was heavy. I enjoyed some of the initial humor, but as the film went on some of the fresh humor became stale as they ran out of new ways to make fun of Nathan's neat compulsion. Howard inadvertently becomes a nemesis to Jaspar (J.B. Smoove) a bit that I liked. The film was able to tie together bits and pieces, i.e. circle around, something I expect in good writing. The problem was that the jokes were not that good and the sexual humor wasn't that funny.Works as a rental.Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity. Sex talk.
Ian Mitchell How does Larry David come up with this (add Michael Keaton ) expletive here. It's an amazing format of comedy as it is clear ly a tragedy. Larry really nips the yammering in the bud, with his no beating around the bush, aggressive, straight to the point, sense of insatiable entitled genius. This screenplay could easily adapted for a off Broadway hit, and is definitely a generational gap closer as it touches on so many environmental and social economic topics. Clear History is by far Kate Hudson 's best role ever, Larry David nailed her character on the head. The script was impeccable, not gonna sugar coat it; this flick was pretty, pretty awesome.
Hugo Melo I am a huge fan of both "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm". His HBO show was one of the series that I made a point of watching every week. When I read about "Clear History" I was super excited. Fisrstly, because the screeplay was written bu David, Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer, all of which worked on Seinfeld at one point. Secondly becasuse it was directed by Greg Motolla, who has made "Superbad", "Paul" and most episodes of the first three seasons of "Arrested Development". Thirdly because of the impressive cast that LD was able to gather. It seemed nothing could go wrong. But somehow the movie fails. The script is not very funny, extremely predictable, meandering and a bit all over the place; the direction is uninspired and devoid of any comedic timming. Those claimming it is an extended "CYE" episode are very wrong in my opinion because whereas "Curb" is absolutely hilarious and guffaw inducing this movie is very much devoid of big laughs. Sure, it rises the very occasional chuckle but overall very tame and uninspired. If you need to watch a better feature film with LD, check out "Whatever Works" directed by Woody Allen. Not in any way original by Woody's standards but good for someone who appreciates Allen's work.
kpboll Curb your... was an amazing show. A sort of reality TV that is actually entertaining. This movie is nothing more than another episode of Curb. Although he plays an different character, Larry David isn't an actor. He's just a really funny guy who plays himself. The plot is very, very thin but the dialogues and characters are quite good. The actors are a mixture of old people who seem like David's real life buddies from his favorite lunchroom and a group of Hollywood's elite like Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes, Jon Hamm, Bill Hader and the always brilliant Philip Baker Hall. Larry David does what he does best and Constanza style he executes his petty revenge on Jon Hamm. A neurotic loser who really does deserve his faith by you end up rooting for him anyway. And of course without any effort the hot girl always falls for the unlikely hero. If Larry David would write an actual movie plot in stead of an TV episode he could be the next Woody Allen.
