ladymidath Ordinarily I am not a fan of made for television movies, but this one stood out. The film involves a young mother whose son becomes ill. He develops a rash and his mother slowly begins to realize that it is due to GMO food. It also looks at how huge for profit companies like Monsanto ruins farmers. The film managed to be intense and riveting without going into histrionics. I loved the way that the actors, particularly Zoe Lister-Jones as Sophie and Beth Grant as Kristin did not look like cookie cutter actresses but actually real people which gave the film an even better dramatic edge. It was engaging without being preachy. (Remember the old Quincy episodes, *eye- roll*)Consumed looks at the real dangers of massive corporations controlling food productions and the consequences of what people are calling Franken foods. The ending was very well done. Not traditionally happy, but satisfying, with a very chilling scene at the end. All up, I would recommend people who have a real interest in GMO food and factory farming to watch this. It may not be a documentary, but it obviously did it's research. Another thing that rang true about this film, is the way the corporation Clonestra goes after farmers and bullies and intimidates people who they see as a threat to their profits. Clonestra of course being Monsanto who has become infamous for their treatment of farmers and how they manipulate the system to allow them to pretty much do what they want. Now, on a slightly different topic. Some of the comments about this film I find troubling. Not because they did not like the film, but the nature of the criticisms. Sure, obviously this movie is not going to be to every ones taste and that is fine, but what I fine disturbing as that all the attacks are not on the acting or photography or the writing, it's all attacking the science. The comments seem to say one thing, that the film is lying, the science is wrong and GMOs are safe. Nearly all these comments were posted within a few months of each other and all in the same year. Coincidence? I don't think so. Food for thought perhaps
blingbling-87931 Excellent film on the danger of GMO. The danger is GMO but also the inventors of GMO who have no ethic and act like criminals all over the world. Like pharmaceutical companies with vaccines and so many invented diseases like HIV for which treatments are the cause of Aids and nothing else, , GMO companies don't tell the public the truth. People are paid to shut up, politics get involved and in the end, there's profit for a tiny group but misery, illnesses and death for the rest. In Europe we still can eat and be informed of GMO food on labels but this may not last with the Transatlantic treaty that nobody wants except Brussels, the center of lobbies. Let's all eat organic and starve those GMO companies.
bmurphyi Movie does a great job of exposing how evil our corporations are. I now know why after 50 years I get bumps on me when I eat wheat. It started at the time roundup was put on wheat. What a coincidence. We are being poisoned for profit. The rest of the world has awaken to the GMO craze of our corporations, when will the American people take their country back? The movie seem very real from all the stories I have heard from doctors and farmers through the years. Companies have become cancers on us. WE are in a war for survival. This movie shows that. People who give it a negative review are either brainwashed or work for the company.
mcleodjack Reviewer discripplemation, who gave it a bad review, says it's full of misinformation and outright lies; however, discripplemation fails to support the allegations with any examples.Interesting note: discripplemation has only been an IMDb member for 3 weeks and this is his or her ONLY review.Reviewer Windsun33 has given negative reviews to all the other documentaries that expose food and water corruption such as "GMO OMG," "TAPPED," and "Seeds of Death" while most everyone else has given good ratings to these documentaries.Reviewer ted_corning gives it a bad review and even uses an old trick wherein he preempts criticism by saying those that don't support GMOs will call the pro-GMO people shills as if that is supposed to make him credible for pointing that out. Well if the shoe fits...Interesting note: ted_corning has only been a member of IMDb for 3 weeks and has no other reviews.Another reviewer, kelsokristen, has been an IMDb member of just 1 month and 3 weeks AND has no other reviews.Does anyone see a pattern here? Yeah, I thought so. It's so damn obvious.Anyway, enjoy the movie. It's pretty good considering the budget the producers had to work with. And to answer the stupid question, "Why would talented A-list actors attach themselves to this movie," it is because they understand the dangers of GMOs and want to lend their support to the movement. DUH.Why does every other advanced country in the world ban or label GMOs if they're not a problem?
