Synopsis

Daryl is a normal 10-year-old boy in many ways. However, unbeknown to his foster parents and friends, Daryl is actually a government-created robot with superhuman reflexes and mental abilities. Even his name has a hidden meaning -- it's actually an acronym for Data Analyzing Robot Youth Life-form. When the organization that created him deems the "super soldier" experiment a failure and schedules Daryl to be disassembled, it is up to a few rogue scientists to help him escape.

TheLittleSongbird I love this film and feel it is an underrated classic. Although I am a 90s kid, I am very fond of the movies of the 80s, Amadeus, Clue, Back to the Future, Indianna Jones, Beetle Juice, ET, Annie, Secret of NIMH, NeverEnding Story, Stand By Me, Legend, Princess Bride and Who Framed Roger Rabbit to name a few. D.A.R.Y.L has very nice cinematography, colourful sets and costumes without being too fancy and good special effects, while the soundtrack is cool. I liked the script too, it was funny and heart-warming and the story was engaging and poignant as well as briskly paced. The direction I had no problem with either, while the acting is fine especially with Barrett Oliver who is simply wonderful in the lead. Overall, I think D.A.R.Y.L is a classic, and one of the most underrated films of the 80s if not ever. 10/10 Bethany Cox
lituppup OK so at the end the doctor repairs DARYL and he runs home. The premise is that he cannot die, because his brain is computerized. Did anyone else find it to be disturbing that since his mind will long outlive his body, his brain will be functioning long after he is in the grave. He is doomed to spend eternity or as long as his computer brain functions condemned to a solitary existence. I guess he is lucky he has no soul. This movie is actually messed up. Also whatever happened to that 1.2 million dollars that DARYL heisted from the bank and put in his dad's account. Did'nt anyone ever notice that 1.2 million was all of the sudden in his account?
kris747 Well,I believe this is one the greatest movies from the 80s.I really love the movies made during the 1980s,although I was born in late 1986.Really,80s produced many great movies, like ET,Back to the Future Trilogy, the Goonies,Inidana Jones and many other ones. You can consider Daryl to be another kid adventure movie, just like the Goonies. This movie gives me a feeling that it has something in common with the movie Artificial Intelligence. They both have a robot boy who wants to be a normal kid, right?Yeah, however,I prefer Daryl to AI,Daryl is more realistic, like that suburban lifestyle around here the USA. So if you like kids, adventure, suburban life, and you're also nostalgic and sci-fi minded,I suggest you seeing this Daryl.
Sarah Humphrey I watched this movie as a child and loved it and now I enjoy it for nostalgia reasons. Barret Oliver plays the perfect robot child, and "turtle" his best friend play a great character also. I always enjoyed watching all the perks of D.A.R.Y.L being a robot. Everything from changing the balance of his father's bank account to being a computer game whiz. It has such an uplifting ending, and I always get teary eyed when...(well I won't give away the ending)...but its a heartwarming ending. Michael McKean plays the foster father which now being older and seeing him in "This is Spinal Tap", is hilarious seeing him act as the sensitive father/husband. I would recommend kids that saw this when they were younger to rewatch this 80s classic, but perhaps adults that are looking for a good movie on a Saturday night to skip this one.
