vkap-13252 The movie is quite different and the story has a theme - unlike most recent comedies. Except for the end, it is very well executed. The end reverts to filmy craziness but oh well. Most starts have delivered compelling performances. I was pleasantly surprised by a mature and measured performance from Ranveer Singh who otherwise does action hero roles. Farhan Akhtar looks too old (with wrinkles around his eyes) to play a role in Ranveer-Priyanka generation. He looks more like Priyanka's "chacha" than a boy-friend. But hey, he is the director's brother!Note for the PC-wary: Zoya Akhtar seems to have used this as an opportunity for a lot of male bashing. Women are largely shown as poor victims or fighters against patriarchy with an added dash of Hindu-Muslim match up. Typical liberal drivel that infects bollywood "liberally".
Shourya Sangam Dil Dhadakne Do is directed by Zoya Akhtar and she once again made a very charming, entertaining Bollywood flick after Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. This movie contains a HUGE cast: Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Ranvir Singh, Shefali Shah, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, and even Aamir Khan as a voice-over. Everyone did an excellent job, especially Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra playing a father and daughter. The story follows a family and a lot of guests on a cruise ship for their 30th wedding anniversary who face variety of conflicts and misunderstandings within their already dysfunctional family. There is a lot of heart in this movie and it makes it so much fun to watch.Besides being very emotional, this is also a very funny movie. I was laughing my butt off at how silly it got at times. Aamir Khan voices as the family's dog, Pluto, and there is a lot of humor generated with that. Ranveer Singh also has some pretty comedic scenes. The cinematography is also gorgeous with beautiful shots of Europe and the cruise ship. There is even a song that is done completely in one shot, which is amazing. The drama makes this movie memorable. The disagreements within families about marriage are so well illustrated by this clever script. I love how Zoya Akhtar blends the line between Hollywood and Bollywood so well. At times, this didn't even feel like an Indian movie, aside from the songs. The songs were OK. I mean I didn't really like their presence in this movie but they're good on their own. There are a lot of subplots in this movie and they all have to present for this story to be told correctly. But sometimes the pacing gets messed up and the tone keeps shifting from comedy to drama and back. Also this movie is really long at 2 hours and 53 minutes, but it feels like every scene has to be a part of it. These are just a few nitpicks I have with the film but other than that I had a great time with Dil Dhadakne Do. Compared to Zoya Akhtar's other films, I think Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is the better film, but again I still very much enjoyed this one.I'm going to give Dil Dhadakne Do a B+.
PimpinAinttEasy Dear Zoya Akhtar, Dil Dhadakne Do is the sort of movie that makes you want to throw a bomb at the screen. There are so many embarrassing scenes. I just sit in the movie hall and slowly died due to the torture inflicted upon my senses. The movie made me want to drink a hundred beers. When it comes to human relationships, you provide the insight of Sooraj Bharjathya. I am not kidding. You have nothing interesting or original to say.So you inserted this really phony and trite feminist scene where Farhan Akhtar tears into Rahul Bose's character. It is the sort of scene that gives feminism a bad name. The acting is awful, it is like these actors just turned up on the sets without any preparation. It is almost like they are all playing themselves - imagine tolerating a goofy bulked up moron like Ranveer Singh or an uptight fool like Anushka Sharma for nearly 3 hours.Even Woody Allen's or Richard Curtis' worst films would be a hundred times better than this piece of crap.Best Regards, Pimpin.(1/10)
