unbrokenmetal Fallon (James Horan) apparently omitted many pages in the book of "how to become a good cop", but despite his drug addiction, aggression and corruption, he manages to make progress in his investigation when a series of murders is caused by a supernatural killer. After his dark sides were portrayed excessively, the good sides appear somewhat unexpected, for example at the university when he conducts his research very politely. Lance Henriksen, confined to a wheelchair, plays a gangster with more courage than the others ("Don't think I'm gonna run from you" - good taste?), when Fallon seeks assistance from criminals rather than his colleagues. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, they say. Certainly the movie has got a few good ideas and actors, plus great locations at Buenos Aires - but everything is somewhat crude and overdone. Too many victims end up in body-bags, while the investigation is sloppy and slow, since the cops care more about their personal dislikes. The music is deliberately monotonous, looping the same dark chords to infinity, which might give a sinister atmosphere to a thrilling story, but alas, the story of "Dying God" does not pull it off, trying to please genre fans with the occasional sick stuff instead of providing a better explanation for the nature and character of the 'god'. Besides, the poor dubbing didn't make it any better.
Nick Damian Awful to extremes in so many ways I can't begin. This is a script that should have never been read before page 1. No way should it have even be read beyond page 2. Then to think that somebody put a camera to film this is way beyond logic.Horrible in such a bad fashion that it's funny. If you want to waste your time in all aspect as well as any money you may have is a crime that yet has to be written. It's a joke that somebody thought this is a film that could to some degree entertain and if there was a 0 on the scale, well it would certainly be awarded a big nothing. There are tampon commercials that are much more entertaining and watchable than this.
in1984 The monster idea was the best part of the film and what made it watchable. The film has an interesting idea, but that's pretty much where it ends. The acting and oddity of listening to to a mix of English and French accented English in a South American industrial city is a bit too much. Sort of like watching it filmed in a French Canadian province for a story that's supposed to take place in Brazil. The lack of fit gave it that b-movie/TV quality despite a good soundtrack and believable FX.The director and caster get responsibility for it. The stereotypical dirty cop, hookers, relationships, cigarettes, and drugs just didn't fit. It all seemed forced. Too many easy fixes that irritated me and took my focus away from the story.
Heislegend I won't go so far as to call this movie "the worst I've ever seen" (as is so common on IMDb)...mostly because if you can point to one movie as the worst ever you clearly haven't watched enough crap. But yeah...this is just plain horrible. Where to start? First of all, it's kind of sad to watch Lance Henriksen fall lower and lower. He's gone from "that one guy in Alien" to stuff like this shot-on-video affair. Second of all, even if you're on a limited budget (which this obviously was), trying hiring a lead actor that does not have the looks and acting abilities of a bit part daytime soap player. That part may even go double for not hiring a soft-core porn "star" as a supporting role. And while I'm thinking about it, look over your script to make sure it isn't repulsively boring and trite. That may be the most important part. The movie basically starts with us being forced to explore the life of Sean Fallon a burned out cop (or detective?) whose wife left when he couldn't knock her up. Now he pretty much gets by on booze and hookers. My, how original. Then he catches a case where someone or something is killing off hookers by (get this) raping them. Now I don't know what town you live in, but in this city if someone started offing hookers in a hilariously ironic fashion it would likely be seen more as a public service than something to form a task force about. Then again, this is explained away by mentioning two or three times that it's "election time". Sure, whatever. As luck would have it, some quasi-demon/mythological beast/lame special effect with a huge wang is killing off all the girls in an effort to mate. Ugh...is it over yet? The movie starts slow and fails to build any steam or interest and before long you may start to think about washing your mouth out with buckshot. Nearly everything is so boringly unoriginal and uninteresting that it's a wonder anyone would even consider funding this steaming pile. Henriksen is good enough, but not nearly enough to take focus off of the rest of this crap. Even the demon/whatever is a sloppy special effects nightmare that looks like it was raided from the parts bin from those old live-action "Guyver" movies. There is nothing redeemable here...nothing interesting or original. Just a tired wreck that will make you ashamed to belong to the same species as these people.
