leplatypus I get to to this very atypical movie because of Leonor. Here, she had a small part of a TV host, just the time to show her energy and charm to tempt this young soccer player ! I expected also to find the warm and sunny Spanish life but the heavy yellow colorization just destroys the view of Madrid ! So i'm left with a season of football in one of the best team in the world ! The story isn't original as it has the usual up and down for this kind of movie (the fabulous contract, the amazing goals, the rivalry with his friend partner, the injury and the thrilling final !). His private life with her English girlfriend and the search for his mother, even if interesting, is totally unreal. The easy life for such unworthy millionaires is shown but in a sanitized way ! The only good thing here is the mix between fake and reality as the real stars of Madrid are involved. So we enter their looker, we see them kick the ball, however above all Beckham as it's an English movie. So it's a pity that the sport matter is pushed away (the coach is just transparent and the games are only worthy if they are the Champions League)... As it happened that i actually read the book about the infamous 2010 world cup french team, i think it would be a great idea for an adaptation as it shows what it isn't in this movie : super egos, super money, paranoid coaches, bloody media...
aasionfire I've watched both the goal movies and what i feel is that the music doesn't give that much support to the screenplay... the music could've been a little more wild and loud... also everything becomes predictable very long before it happens... a slightly better focus could've been given to the pace of the movie....The dialogue part should've definitely been improved especially the part where santi's gf cries... the dialogue lacks a little logic.... also his little brother driving off on the lamborghini part... he is from a small poor neighbourhood and he drives a car.. i don't buy it... and he shows his middle finger to his bro... why would he do that??
p_empi Just watched Goal 2 and must say it was fairly predictable in all areas of the movie. Although somewhat entertaining with some good football created by some world class footballers, the story doesn't really turn any interesting corners. When you link it up with Goal, it begins with a talented player who makes good with Newcastle and finally becomes a star with some interesting scenes thrown in. In Goal 2 the obvious occurs, star player goes to a bigger club, gets caught up in the good life, loses his girl, gets injured, works hard and comes back to please everyone. Would I recommend this Movie? Yes and No.... The football is not bad and its interesting to see Beckam and company strut their stuff off and on the field but you would have thought they would have come up with a better storyline rather than churn out the same old stuff.By the way, you don't see too many movies finish with a "to be continued" Scary stuff!
Hans I watched the first movie when it released in the cinemas, and although it was highly unrealistic (all the chances he miraculously gets), I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought the movie mixed the highs with the lows believably. There was decent acting, a good story, and as previously mentioned, although a bit far fetched, it made for good watching. However goal 2 had me bored far before the end. It was just the most ridiculous story I have ever seen. From terrible high speed car chases to plain boring sequences, the movie just seemed like an assortment of hundreds of genres, with minimal football. All in all I thought it had tremendous potential had it just stuck to a footballers troubles in his footballing world, rather than try to get stuck in a long boring drama.
