Pjtaylor-96-138044 'Green Zone (2010)' is actually a corporate conspiracy thriller that uses the Iraq war as a back-drop for its action set-pieces and fairly contrived government-meddling plot, rather than using it as a means to uncover the truth behind the real-life events (which it occasionally appears to think it's doing) and, as such, will likely alienate a large portion of the audience who think they're meant to be seeing an accurate representation of the complex situation but are instead presented with numerous inconsistencies and inaccuracies. These inaccuracies do thankfully lead to some passively entertaining sequences and a generally anti-war, or rather anti-war-as-a-means-to-an-end, message, though. While it would certainly seem that Greengrass' signature, and at this point solitary, shaky style should be the perfect match for the hectic rush of war-time battle, at times it appears as though he has devolved into a parody of himself - his skill lost amidst the sea of second-rate copy-cats that emerged after the success of his 'Bourne' titles. Some sequences are literally difficult to look at and even harder to follow, to the point that every scene becomes an action-scene and the worst are pure chores to sit through. It gets to be amateur stuff at times and, were it not for the credits and the inclusion of several A-list actors, it almost appears like the work of an ambitious student on a relatively meagre budget - inexcusable for a man of his talent with this many resources behind him. 5/10
Floated2 Green Zone has been classified as a rare miss for both Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass. We remember when Green Zone was first released showing the trailers, it was relatively hyped up and described as a "Bourne film in war". The film wasn't received as well as the first three Bourne films and has flopped at the box office. Within the story, It's 2003, where we see Matt Damon plays (Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller), head of a WMD-finding unit in Baghdad which keeps coming up empty at all the alleged sites. Suspecting bad leads, Miller goes maverick in his attempts to trace their original source, raising eyebrows and fighting the received orthodoxy. With all we know about the wool-pulling to make the case for war, it's a kick to follow a main character on the ground who smells a rat this early, wary of the stalling tactics the Pentagon are offering instead of conclusive proof.Overall Green Zone doesn't grad the attention as one would have hoped for. It has its moments but in comparison to the Bourne films, Green Zone doesn't stack up and comes up short. Also compared to the Hurt Locker, in which we can see some similarities but the Hurt Locker feels as much of a more superior film.
reid-hawk This movie cops out and cuts corners in nearly every way possible. Hey you want to show a partially destroyed building, yeah lots not make a set lets just use obvious CGI. Hey instead of firing blanks and using squibs to show bullet impact, lets use CGI. Yeah that's right, sh!tty CG for the muzzle flash, sh!tty CG for the smoke the gun produces, and sh!tty CG for any and all bullet impacts. I don't understand why you would make a movie like this and just halfass it. It's not relying on a strong or compelling story. The characters are bland and we know the outcome before the movie even starts: there are no WMDs. It doesn't try to be realistic about anything either. The soldiers never show trigger discipline, always fire on full auto, and nobody ever seems to miss a shot no matter how inaccurate their full auto fire should be. So what is Green Zone even going for? The action is still enjoyable to watch in a dumb mind numbing way (even if a clichéd action movie soundtracks plays throughout every intense scene instead of letting the ambient noises create the atmosphere itself), and any conspiracy movie is intriguing in some sense as long as it isn't total garbage. So although I cannot recommend this movie I can't say it's totally unwatchable. Unless you hate hand-held, then yes the majority of this movie is totally unwatchable shaky cam with quick cut editing. No, this movie suffers from being average in every single category.
blanche-2 "Green Zone" is a 2010 film starring Matt Damon and directed by Paul Greengrass based on the book by Rajiv Chandrasekaran.Matt Damon plays Roy Miller, a Chief Warrant Officer who in 2003 is sent to Iran to find weapons of mass destruction. He can't find any.The search for WMD was in part instigated by the Pentagon's man in Baghdad, Poundstone (Greg Kinnear). When no weapons are found, Miller wonders why the intel is so bad. A Wall Street Journal reporter, Lawrie Dayne (Amy Ryan) tells Miller that Poundstone had secret talks in Jordan with someone with the code name Magellan, who claims there are weapons. Miller endeavors to get at the truth.Very interesting story with lots of action, and a good premise. I confess I haven't read the book so I have no idea how much is based on fact. The acting was very good. The director used a hand-held camera for some of the action scenes. I'm like another person who reviewed on this site. It doesn't really bother me.This film didn't do well at the box office; in fact, it didn't even break even. I know sometimes seeing a film in the theater is a different experience, but seeing it as a rental, it was good.
