Has nothing to do with the Jamie Lee Curtis 1980 original. Here in 1957 a cheating Mary Lou Maloney (Lisa Schrage) is named Prom Queen. She is burned to death after a prank goes horribly wrong coming from a jilted lover. Fast forward 30 years and her spirit is walking the hallways of Hamilton High. Or rather possessing Vicki Carpenter (Wendy Lyon) who is dating the son of Bill Nordham (Michael Ironside) who was hurt by Mary Lou 30 years prior on prom night. Does quite a good job on the possession angle and sort of feels almost like a Canadian-Nightmare on Elm Street. Just insert Mary Lou instead of Freddy. In fact at times plays out a little bit like, but works better than A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (which was made 2 years prior). Certainly worth a look.

Let us start by counting the movies Prom Night 2 ripped off.1. The Exorcist 2. Nightmare on Elm Street 3. Carrie 4. Friday the 13th Just to name a few.Now if this was meant to be a satire like Airplane! Then bravo. Unfortunately, I don't think that was the goal here. This film had absolutely NO original material and dragged on for the longest 1 2/2 hours of my life. Satires are supposed to make you laugh. This simply made me cringe in my popcorn. Why two stars? Because Wendy Lyon did an admirable job trying to save the flick. Too bad she completely destroyed her career in the process.

High school slut Mary Lou Maloney (Lisa Schrage) dies in 1957 on prom night due to an accidental fire caused by her spurned boyfriend. Thirty years later the boyfriend has grown up to be Michael Ironside. In a manner the story doesn't really bother to explain, Mary Lou's spirit returns and is out for revenge. Nominal sequel to Prom Night is surprisingly good. Like I said, the way in which Mary Lou is brought back is pretty flimsy but I guess in movies like this it doesn't matter that much. I liked the twist of having the high school jerk Mary Lou was fooling around with grow up and become a priest. The rocking horse scene was a highlight. Michael Ironside is the biggest name in the cast. But they all do pretty well. Fans of '80s horror films should like it.

Loose sequel to "Prom Night" only uses the same high school, Hamilton High, where another horror takes place as the vengeful spirit of Mary Lou Maloney, who was accidentally killed at her senior prom thirty years previous, is unleashed from a trunk(?!) by Vicki Carpenter(Wendy Lyon) who is dating the son of principal Bill Nordham,(played by Michael Ironside) who, just by one of those standard movie coincidences, happens to be Mary Lou's old boyfriend that she blames for her fiery death. So evil Mary Lou possesses poor Vicki to destroy Bill, and be crowned senior prom queen, no matter who has to die...Typically violent and idiotic horror exploitation is just another illogical and crass film where the supernatural protagonist has all kinds of superpowers because the script says they do, with no regard to plausibility or coherence, with the ending being the final insult.
