mattbernhagen-669-345798 Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love bad movies. The IMDB "bottom 100" is great. This movie is different. It's not "so bad it's good". It's not interesting, it's not funny, and it's not fun to watch. I was bored literally the entire time. I was waiting the whole time for something to happen that elicited any response, but that never happened. This is the worst movie-watching experience I've ever had. Do not watch this.
jamesgandrew A group of youngsters travel to a deserted island to attend a rave; however, a zombie outbreak occurs and they must survive the night.More often than not video game movies are not great, even the better ones are just alright. However, the worst offender of the video game movie genre is Uwe Boll and his first American movie was an adaptation of the popular light gun game, House of the Dead. While this isn't his worst movie, it insinuates everything wrong with an Uwe Boll movie. The script is badly written, the decisions characters make are dumb and the directing decisions are baffling. There are several moments when clips from the video game are used as transitions or to intercut with action scenes. This is incredibly distracting and I'm aware it's an attempt to make it look and feel like a video game but it's a damn movie. Also, when characters die they use this 360-degree rotating shot which is another terrible gimmick.I'll give the movie some credit though, it's so bad it's hilarious. It has lots of shooting action, gore, late nineties electronic music and Matrix-esque bullet time sequences, while simultaneously trying to make it look like a video game.Uwe Boll continued to make other cinematic abominations such as Bloodrayne, Alone in the Dark, In the Name of the King, Far Cry, Postal and Rampage. Boll retired from filmmaking at the end of 2016, leaving behind a legacy of the worst video game adaptations imaginable.
Eric Stevenson I guess I might be expressing some bias simply because I'm a huge fan of the games. It's been sad learning about the decline of arcade games, but these were games that I always had fond memories of from my teenage years. I just spent that much time in the theater. I hope they didn't even have this in the arcade of theaters that actually showed this movie. This is in my top ten worst films of all time. I had heard so much about Uwe Boll and was interested in at least seeing what he had done. This is the guy who actually beat up people (in boxing matches) who hated his movies.Honestly, I could challenge him seeing as how I have so much rage for him. The most insufferable thing about this film was probably how it contained stock footage from the actual games. I mean, they just randomly show this footage over and over and it's only one or two seconds long. What's incredible is that this movie has absolutely nothing to do with the games at all. You could literally remove the footage and no one would know it was a movie based on "House Of The Dead". I mean, I would think that if you included stock footage from the actual thing that you're basing your movie on, you would know what the game was about! It's the worst zombie movie ever made.I heard this movie had one of the highest movie body counts, but it doesn't matter. In one long scene, they just show these monotonous horrible slow motion scenes over and over with all these terrible angles. The main character even flashes back to a bunch of scenes that just happened! It's about this island with zombies on it that's hard to get to. How can it be hard to get to when we see all these ravers there? There's a huge "Sega" sign begin displayed. It was as if this movie needed to remind you that it was based on a Sega game. It's more like useless product placement. The movie ends with the main villain appearing and saying that he uses zombie blood or something so he can live forever. Wha...? This has the most random plot lines I've ever heard of. The budget looks terrible, looking more like a TV movie than a theatrically released film. Well, this the worst movie I've seen for Video Game Month and one of the worst ever. I still have a lot more Uwe Boll movies to watch! Remember, he literally said that he was "the only genius in this whole f**king business" (his actual words). Let's hope he never gets his hands on Mega Man. Zero stars
keiranh-205-354645 There are always going to be horrible directors, and then there are people who like to think of themselves as directors when malfunctioning GPS navigators provide better direction. Uwe Boll is categorized in the latter, being in my opinion even worse then Ed Wood. This film is solid evidence of this, stuffed with laughable dialogue and silly teen meanderings, which prevent this from being in the same dimension as watchable. If you get your film inspiration from your favorite arcade game, then maybe your in the wrong field. Three story credits are listed for what seems like a kindergärtners project. A thirty person rave in the middle of the afternoon followed by stupid looking zombies somehow transforms incompetent teens into ace marksmen and markswomen. A creep in a stitched mask looks at people behind trees and when asking a question, one of the characters answers his own question in his question. In conclusion, video games are thin inspirations for feature films, arcade games are even thinner.
