juneebuggy This is one of those movies that has stuck with me for a couple of days after watching it. A very different role for Jason Statham, and not what I was expecting from him, more dramatic. Here the choreographed fight sequences, bone breaking, car chasing action and general carnage take a back seat while Statham shows us a deeper and more emotional character. He pulls it off for the most part even managing to shed a tear. The movie isn't without its flaws though it flip-flops, is vague at times and even draggy but I was still invested throughout.I liked the story, a sort of modern day twist on Robin Hood following a damaged (and AWOL) special forces war veteran who has shut himself down with the aid of the bottle and is now one of the homeless on the streets of London. After getting beat up by some local thugs Joey Jones finds himself on the run and accidentally breaking (falling through the roof) into an apartment where the wealthy owner is away for the summer. Joey cleans himself up, borrows the mans clothes, his credit card, his car and sets about getting sober and fit again, eventually finding a job in a Chinese kitchen that requires some muscle.Jones then becomes a sort of vigilante in a bid to atone for his sins and also to find the girl he was playing hobo with on the streets who's been taken into a prostitution ring.We also see the building of a relationship with a faltering nun named Cristina (Agata Buzek) -she is fantastic and while this quasi romance does take over the story to a certain degree I enjoyed them together, great dialogue and interplay and just unique. 4/18/16
daniel-bodilly I watched this movie cause I am a Jason Statham Fan and expected to like this movie but I just did not their wasn't anything to like I am sorry to the people who liked the movie but to me I couldn't really get into it.Bad acting and bad screen writing I couldn't really see any point of watching the rest of the movie but I did, the movie isn't that enjoyable I can watch another Jason Statham Movie and not worry about thinking of this movie, I also dislike the name of the movie Hummingbird what dose it even mean the movie makes no sense what so ever.
Uriah43 While serving in Afghanistan, a British soldier who goes by the name of "Joey" (Jason Statham) becomes emotionally unglued while watching his buddies being killed and takes matters into his own hands by killing a person he had taken prisoner. What he doesn't know is that his prisoner was totally innocent and that his actions are being observed by a drone flying overhead. As a result, rather than face a courts-martial he chooses to go underground and hide out in the mean streets of London. It's at this time that fortune smiles upon him when he accidentally stumbles upon an apartment belonging to a rich businessman who is temporarily on an extended business trip to the United States. This much needed sanctuary gives him the time to regain his strength and sanity in such a way that he is able to attain a large measure of financial success working for a crime boss who deals in drugs and prostitution. Now rather than reveal any more of this movie and risk spoiling it I will just say that it had potential but failed to establish a concise storyline at the beginning which caused confusion further along. I also didn't care for the ending which left too many things unresolved. In any case, it was a decent action film which I thought suffered from poor overall structure and I have rated it accordingly. Average.
Floated2 Similar to many Jason Statham action thrillers, Redemption/Hummingbird is more loosely a typical action film but nonetheless a solid attention seeking slowly paced drama, with several action fight scenes. Statham is able to showcase his acting skills as he plays a tough homeless man seeking a fresh new start from a messy past. What the audience witnesses and what makes the film work is the character development, as we slowly get attached to his character. Along the way, he finds a few close friends such as a helpful nun whom helps him, as we are also suggested that he finds further proof and much needed information from her. Redemption is not a typical action film, as if those watching it simply based on the trailer are expecting that such, they may be very well disappointed. The film broadens into deep and darker territory and it is a joy and pleasure to watch. Redemption not having a wide US release, due to it being a more so UK film, has brought upon the reason why, however the audience does get to view into its further purposes. Filled with great artwork, dialogue and scenery.
