Synopsis

As a new day begins in the town of Silverton, its residents have little reason to believe it will be anything other than ordinary. Mother Nature, however has other plans. In the span of just a few hours, an unprecedented onslaught of powerful tornadoes ravages Silverton. Storm trackers predict that the worst is still to come, as terrified residents seek shelter, and professional storm-chasers run toward the danger, hoping to study the phenomenon close up and get a once-in-a-lifetime shot.

michael thompson I read all the reviews, and all the negative ones. This movie was not a disaster flick. It was well made throughout. This was an excellent and very well acted disaster movie. Easily 10/10. The special effects were top notch. All it takes to enjoy any disaster movie is a little imagination. So, grab some popcorn, sit back on your chair, and prepared for a thrill ride.
Hitchcoc Because crazy special effects have become the norm, we are back to judging movies on whether they tell a good story. This is about as clichéd and predictable as can be. It starts out well with an incredibly drive, myopic leader of a storm chasing team, near the end of his rope because it has been so long since he got anything on film. We also have the too busy dad whose sons resent him because he demands too much of them. Isn't that sad. Of course, he lost his wife at some point. And the female lead lost her husband. And, well. The one boy gets the courage up to ask the hot girl have anything to do with him and they end up in danger. The storm chaser guy is responsible for the death of a kid and then he will die in a heroic way righting his wrong. The storm scenes are intense but we must remember that many of them are there because of their chosen profession. And finally, it has that sappy, syrupy ending, blah, blah, blah. It has excitement and it's very loud, but it's just not a very good film.
The Couchpotatoes I normally do like disaster movies. Most of the time the story isn't a surprise, you just know what you will get before watching it. With Into The Storm it's the same. You know it's going to be about tornado hunters and that's basically what you get. So don't expect much more than a bunch of tornado hunters driving around to find a good spot (preferable right in the eye of the tornado) to study the ultimate monster tornado. A lot of disaster and damage, with a couple of casualties. That's what you get. But to me it was just not good enough. The computer generated images were not that good, you could clearly see that it's fake. The acting was also a bit dull and boring. Not good enough to be remembered.
Fallen Eye If your preference is Natural Disaster films, I could understand why this movie would be amongst your favourites.Into The Storm is what a natural disaster movie generally always is. However, admittedly, there were moments where tension was well executed, and, the visuals were, well above par.Another aspect I appreciated about this movie, was; even though it's equipped with the usual clichés such as a broken family needing to reconnect, it also tried avoiding the Eye of others, especially given how well within the path of that vortex it was.Naturally, it seems, given this genre; There really is no story to speak of. The only story is really, Donnie's brief explanation of why his family is in slight turmoil. However with that said, one has to think much of the director/studio in regards to keeping this film in and around the 90 minute mark.Sadly though, the editing at many points, leaves little to be admired. It leaves you feeling like something is missing from the movie, instead of it expressing the necessity to not have to linger. The score, was enjoyable, but wrong or misplaced in this movie. Brian Tyler is an awesome composer, but this score belonged in a Michael Bay, D.J. Caruso or Peter Berg type of flick.Had Donnie died, it would've been a definite 7/10... It would've been the storm's twist, to the story we always knew it would tell. However though, Donnie didn't die; and as much as I'd love to give this film a 7, 6.7/10 it'll have to be, that I'll round off to a 7 hanging on by a thread, because if Into The Storm was directed by Roland Emmerich, I know it would be a 6 maximum... But probably way worse.
