velianne-87204 This short animation by Pixar Studios recounts the training of an alien in abducting humans on earth. The young inexperienced alien is having quite a hard time figuring out all the tricks of the job. He indeed needs to figure out how to use a machine with more than a thousand buttons that look exactly the same in order to successfully lift the human target out from his window and into the spaceship. Though the trainee alien seems quite confident on his capacities to succeed his examination, it will not be without a couple of hardships along the way. I saw this short animation for the first time in the cinema when I was a child before the screening of a Pixar movie. I remember enjoying it then and my feelings have not changed a bit, I still laughed at every twists and turns. The film therefore does an amazing job in catching the attention of every age groups and making them laugh just the same, and doing so only through visual representations, as there are no dialogues. Even if the context is that of an alien passing a training exam, it is so easy to project oneself through him. The stress, the unflinching gaze of the examiner watching and judging every one of your move, the loss of confidence and failing every new attempt: all these characteristics are so relatable, and reminded me so much of my own traumatizing experience of the driving license exam. We therefore easily get attached to the trainee alien, but also to the examiner when we realize his "humanity" at the very end of the animation. Overall, a sweet and funny short animation which brightened my day.
khnerostar This is a really funny and interesting short in my opinion. The short tells the story of a little alien who is doing the practical test for using an UFO and lift humans inside it, but it does not work and everything turns bad and the human hits every object inside his house. Without any piece of dialogue, the short is able to tell a story, but not a normal one, one really funny actually. The character of the little alien is the main point of the story, but I would say that the funniest character is the other big alien who is supervising the test. His face expressions and the way he acts towards the little alien are the funniest parts of the story. Also, the way that we can relate to this story even them being aliens is really big. I mean, who does not think about the driving license test while watching this short? It is a really good reference about daily life in a very original way. Finally, the short has a good outline in my opinion; is really easy to understand what is happening and why. Maybe it is because it is a film whose target are children, but I also think that there are some parts that adults can understand in other ways and I think that this makes the film really good. Good outline, good characters and funny, everything is well done.
Jirorian Telling of an apprentice alien in the craft of human abduction struggling with the overwhelming control panel in front of him, 'Lifted' is a goofy story that everyone can relate to in our attempts to overcome the pressures of work, the mountains of tasks that lay endlessly before us with no obvious means of easily being solved, and the indifferent looks from our bosses as we struggle to find redemption over our clearly insufficient efforts. It is an ode to the common man, the daily grind, and the efforts one makes to prove oneself. The stylistic visuals and comedy is as expected of Pixar, and everyone will surely get a laugh or two out of their viewing of the short film.
Indiana-Harrison An alien takes a test for an abduction of a human being. He looks like a not-so-good student. This film is quite funny. The contrast between the inside of UFO and the one of the abductee's house is striking. Also I feel sympathy for the alien who takes the test. His emotions are really familiar to me. He can't be sure whether he's doing right or not and he tries to know that from a examiner's reaction. But the examiner doesn't even change his expression. He feels more uneasiness. Everyone who has taken a test or something would know this feeling. The more you feel nervous, the more you make mistakes. I laugh at him, but at the same time, I feel like he is me. I cheered for him during watching it.This film is a comedy, but it describes a general feeling everybody has. While he is an alien, he has something in common with us.
