Avinash Patalay For starters the title is not apt. it gives an impression of a mythological drama (Ramayana/ Mahabharata). Well, it is clearly inspired by the success of Johnny Gaddar a la James Hadley Chase. Perhaps as a novel, it does ensure edge-of-seat excitement with twists and turns at every turn of page but sadly it failed to translate on screen. Again Johnny Gaddar should be a good reference point.Performances::§ Naseer:: Lesser mortals like us are in no position to comment on his work. § Paresh Rawal:: He was good if not excellent. The smart one-liners seemed stuffed into is mouth. His act of putting on the loyalty mask, seemed OTT. His frequent dispute with Neha Dhupia and Boman Irani were kind of show-stoppers to the narration.§ Om Puri - Very short role and hence didn't get an opportunity to display histrionics.§ Boman Irani - Very confident performance. § Neha Dhupia - Passable.§ Tara Sharma - The "Little Red Riding Hood" act does raise the suspicion bar. Plus her choice of donning the same role every time is getting monotonously boring. One gets a feel of watching a two-part episode from the Karamchand series, if you know what I mean. Shivam Nair won critical accolades for his work Ahista-Ahista, however seems this time putting shoulders to the wheel wasn't quite sufficient.
pcsarkar Gujarati play?? Hmmm.. Its a rip-off of the James Hadley Chase classic, THERE'S ALWAYS A PRICE TAG!! Glyn Nash and Helen Dester try to pass of Dester's suicide as a murder, to claim insurance but things go horribly wrong.. A very poor version of the path-breaking novel, if I may say so!! Chase must be turning in his grave, to see his block busters being produced in all sorts of ways.. without even a wee bit of credit to him. There has also been a TV version of the story, if I remember correctly. I know that it is quite impossible to bring Chase's multi-dimensional characters to life on the screen.. but a little credit or acknowledgment would surely be in order?
ankit jain a brilliant movie ... taking a risk of making a thriller which the Indian masses can understand is a big one.. though the multiplex audience (like me) loved the movie .. there are no romantic subplots or any item songs .. but just sheer acting and brilliant screenplay. a shot when the camera zooms out of a keyhole is one of the most brilliant scenes i have seen in Hindi cinema ... the protagonist looks like a young 30'sh year old fella, being done by paresh rawal (suresh in the movie), by great method acting. the movie urges the audience to think, like a thriller and the plot is an unpredictable one, for an Hindi movie, where almost everything is so predictable from the start .. the bad points are that tara sharma and neha dhupia have their limitations to act, is visible.. apart from them, and a few minor glitches, the movie is a must watch for someone seeking alternate bollywood cinematic experience...
HIREN DAVE "How do you murder a man who has already committed suicide?" This is the tagline of the film & it's really honest attempt by all the players & script writer to engage the audience with its thrilling effects of theme. The movie is adaptation of a Gujarati thriller drama by the same name, written brilliantly by Uttam Gada & it has created history with more than 1000 shows. The acting talent of Paresh Rawal got noticed as a lead player of this drama by many film directors then & one of them is Mahesh Bhatt who gave him break in 'Naam.' The movie is perfectly cast with multiple acting giants of screen & almost all of them have played their parts with their best abilities. The script & screenplay maintained elements of successful thriller. The film is at par till the interval with Nasser's short but powerful act, Paresh Rawal's interesting character portrayal & brooding crime of murder & betrayal win game with entry of certain other players. But post interval it becomes more dramatic & less natural and that's make it low in the end. This is the biggest shortcoming of the film that in the second half even Paresh Raval & Boman Irani become too dramatic with their stage instincts & altogether movie becomes so predictable for the common audience & here director as well as actors falters to make it compact screen adaptation. Naseer & Paresh has done commendable job & it's sure shot for you if you admire their acting. Om Puri has the shortest role in the film & nothing much to do & we all know it's act for sake of his rapport with Paresh & Naseer. Drama would be better but film adaptation is nice attempt & it's more appreciation worthy than criticize much. One watch is recommended.Ratings-7.5/10
