jellopuke A very simple story with a couple of great parts (and some tremendous squibs) but Burt Reynolds was not believable as a badass at all. From his expertly tucked in shirts with turtle necks, to his terrible hair, to his sleepwalking acting style, he came across as more of a bored old man than someone who was still a super agent. I get that he was supposed to be old and wanting to retire, but when you look at him, you don't get that sense of toughness beneath the fat, lazy exterior that you should. Bronson could have pulled it off much better. But at least the villain was evil, even if the whole thing was pretty low rent and cheap. Not a total waste of time, just not amazing or anything. Forgettable, like pretty much everything Reynolds did post 70's.
vinu_ks133 I have seen a number of burt reynold movies starting from deliverance, physical evidence, strip tease, mad dog time, hard time etc.. His physique gives him the scope do to action movies at ease. The action sequences are intense and short, but the movie is made well by the director harley cokliss, if u run thru the movie u will not find much action.Considering that it was released in 1987, the run up to the climax was nice.I would like to watch more movies of him
Charles Eagle I strongly recommend that ANYONE disliking this movie---and that counts just about everyone---should run immediately to the library and check out the William Wingate novel "Shotgun" for the surprise of their lives. The surprise being that "Shotgun" is one of the best suspense and action thrillers I have come across. It's been a few years but I can't recall a single element of the book that was carried over into the movie including the name of the title character. Mr. Wingate I hope got a good payoff and spent it well and thanked his lucky stars that this half-assed by-the-numbers piece of Hollywood action schlock has nothing to do with his excellent yarn. It more puts one in mind of Shane and The Man With No Name in its tale of a lone stranger wandering through a small town, attracting the interest of a depressed teenage girl named Lou, and ultimately challenging the vicious criminal organization which holds the entire town in a grip of fear. The character development is much more than one might expect of such a tried-and-true genre and the violence that erupts makes the reader want to stand up and cheer. Souce material---HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Movie---THEY SHOULD'VE PAID ME TO SIT THROUGH IT.
Frank Markland Burt Reynolds star as Malone, an ex CIA agent who comes to small town and helps a family against greedy businessmen led by Cliff Robertson, at first Malone doesn't want to get involved as he is trying to keep a low profile however after an attack in town, he feels obligated to fight back. Malone would be a fun action flick, if it weren't so incredibly boring. The movie is fairly un-credible with Reynolds getting hit by a shotgun and getting better in days, normally plot holes like that don't bother me but when the movie is so low on action and lame in script, you question the movie's decision to be character driven. As it stands this not nearly as fun as one would expect from it's cover.*1/2 out of 4-(Poor)
