Mercenary John Seeger is one of the best in the business. John and his crew battle some soldiers on Galmoral Island in Southern Africa as they're trying to rescue the French Ambassador -- there's a coup going on. Some of John's soldiers unload their machine guns into the Ambassador and his family, blowing the mission and getting his best friend Radio Jones killed. He heads back to the US and visits Radio's wife Shondra to tells her the news, and then promises that he'll take care of her and her son Eddie. But shortly after he makes that vow, Shondra and Eddie get kidnapped.

Dr_Sagan This movie isn't bad. Obviously it is not like Nico, above the law or under siege. Not even the glimmer man. But considering the facts is OK.Again an ex-CIA agent/mercenary blah-blah-blah...You will see Seagal shooting a few rounds, kicking some butts here and there. An attractive presence (Jacqueline Lord) in his side. There are some smirks (if not laughs) in some points and a semi-satisfying ending.I don't recommend to watch it with any degree of serious attention, but if you catch it on TV check it out.Overall: It is what it is!
callanvass Mercenary for Justice was a somewhat pleasant surprise as far as his DTV efforts go. Don't get me wrong, you can detect his laziness, it has its dull spots like many of his DTV films. But the important thing here is he's INTERESTED!. The opening is one of the best things about this movie. Seagal deserves credit for trying to show genuine emotion, he actually choked up a bit. The problem with Mercenary is the story is all over the place. While Seagal's effort is amiable, the script sure isn't. Half the things that go on happen without reason. Die-Hard fans will be pleased to know Seagal does a lot of his own hand-to hand fights here. The scrap with a henchman in a restaurant washroom was especially impressive, and was vintage Seagal. The villains are unfortunately cardboard cutouts, meaning they don't have any real depth to them. But, hey, it beats most of Seagal's efforts, and as a loyal fan of his, I'll gladly take that over the usual crap he produces these days.Performances. Steven Seagal is actually semi-decent here. Nowhere near his best, but he clearly cares somewhat. There's emotion and passion in his character, and he seemed to like this project more than most. His fighting was actually not bad, and I dug his character background. Only problem I had was his ego. Decorated Gulf war veteran?. Jacqueline Lord is beautiful, but that's about it.Bottom line. You may think I'm saying this is a good movie, due to the considerable amount of praise I have given it. Well sorry to disappoint you, but it's far from that. I'm simply saying I appreciated the effort involved, and it's better than most of his projects. Worth a cheap rental if you can find it in your video store.4 1/2 /10
Comeuppance Reviews I liked Seagal.... In his prime. A long time ago, (Okay, 1989) Steven Seagal was the master of the martial arts, A man who speaks little, but makes up for it in kicking ass... and he was lean and mean. Nowadays, he's fat, he can barely talk above a whisper, and he just doesn't care. But he keeps churnin' out the junk. And I keep falling victim to it. For Seagal DTV standards, (does that even make sense?) it isn't as bad as "Submerged" , but it's not as good as "Belly Of The Beast".The plot: John Seeger (you know who...) is an ex-mercenary, CIA, FBI dude, who has to break into a prison, while orchestrating a bank robbery. Then Seeger shoots lots of people. That's about it.What's with the three word titles? Enough already. I guess people don't think it's a Seagal flick without a three word title. The title doesn't even make sense. A mercenary works for money and he has no soul, he doesn't do it for justice. The only actors good in this is Roger Guenveur Smith as the villain Mr. Chapel and Luke Goss as Dresham. But even they were coasting. If you want a good Seagal flick, go with "Out For Justice" instead. For more insanity, please visit: comeuppancereviews.com
dscottcobb I was confused when I ran across this on the hotel TV (with no guide screen on the cable). Steven was looking a little older, so it had to be recent, but the cars belonging to these allegedly super-rich villains were all 10-20 years old, so what the heck was it? This came out in 2006? No way. Big budget there -- just scan the local classifieds for $2500 cars. Even TV shows don't stoop that low.I guess that doesn't have much to do with the movie, except this level of quality and attention to detail carries over to the script, acting, everything. You notice things like this when there are no interesting characters to follow, no coherent plot, and the dialog hurts your ears. There is nothing of merit in this movie. Seagal should cut his losses and go do commercials -- they would offer him more dignity. I hope they let him keep one of those 1988 Benzes.
