Synopsis

As host of his own hit TV series, 'MAN VS', Doug Woods is forced to fend for himself for five days in remote locations with no crew, food, or water, only the cameras he carries on his back to film his experiences. Doug's in the remote woods for a routine episode, until he's awoken by an earth-shaking crash. Things get weirder as it becomes clear Doug isn't alone. Someone or something is watching him.

kingkitsch-80142 Actor Chris Diamantopoulos is a handsome guy. Viewers are made aware of this from the first minutes of this earnest, yet ultimately predictable exercise. Here, our intrepid male model is pretending to be a TV survivalist dropped in a remote Canadian wilderness filming a low-rent cable series about man vs nature. He has a satellite phone with which he calls his crew and "checks in" within hours of being set loose in a wilderness that's not really very remote, or wild. In one scene, while the director is attempting to ratchet up the tension about the "something" that ends up stalking the guy in the wild, you can see cars on a road behind him. Really. Not once can you actually believe he's out in the deep scary woods. Mr. Diamantopoulos has a very nice beard, which is sort of a character unto itself. Problem is, if this luxurious face-fur is unchecked by a razor for five days, shouldn't his neck beard fill in? This guy runs around in circles in the woods for five days dodging an alien that you figured out was the mystery chess player early on. The Beard remains trimmed, although no disposable razors are in sight. Sloppy film continuity ruins this small exercise, as do bad CG effects. Our lead actor really pulls out all the stops acting terrified, but suddenly has the presence of mind to scream "checkmate!!" at the alien he's just dispatched with a weird outboard motor attachment that was shown earlier in the movie. The director just couldn't help himself, so we get a snappy one-liner that was telegraphed way ahead of its utterance. One star for the Beard, one star for the human trap set by the alien (the only really scary thing seen here), and one star for the bunny who gets field stripped and eaten.
neal2zod *SPOILERS* So I'm a big Chris Diamantopoulos fan, ever since I caught his surprisingly touching and nuanced performance as Moe in The Three Stooges. His later menacing turn in Empire State sealed the deal as being an actor to watch. So unsurprisingly, he's the best thing in this found footage thriller that can best be described as "Bear Grylls vs. The Predator".As awesome as that premise sounds, the problem is the movie keeps that premise as a surprise reveal until almost the end. For the first hour or so we're basically treated to a one-man Blair Witch Project where spooky stuff keeps happening, until all of a sudden a Syfy-level CGI alien pops up and then it turns into a poorly made and written monster movie. If the monster had looked halfway decent, or if the main character actually used his survival skills to do battle with the alien (like the final third of Predator), this would have been a great, fun movie. Instead it just ends nonsensically with an incredibly hard-to-see finale with over-the-top gore. There's still some decent talent in front of and behind the camera, i just wish the filmmakers had faith in their fun premise and let it flow throughout the actual movie, instead of just being the twist at the end.
mason mackey I won't retell the story-line, it's covered in the other reviews and on the page I just wanted to say I enjoyed the effort by the lead actor Chris Diamantopoulos, he deserves more high profile work, the movie was well acted and shot, if they had gone more practical with the effects it would have been much better and earned an eight or nine from me, but worth a watch
mauro volvox ... but it is a pretty decent movie.Obviously, the budget for it was minimal. But a decent direction, good script and nice acting conspired to make "Man Vs." into a very entertaining survival film with some sci-fi elements. The location, main actor are perfectly chosen. The story moves at a good pace, we are kept guessing (as intended by the director) and the conclusion was also interesting. It is a lesson on how to make quality work with little money. It is much better than I expected. Give it a try
