wtmerrett Brian De Palma should have stopped directing after The Untouchables. It was the last decent film he made and is still enjoyable to watch even if it has some glaring errors. Passion is crap from start to finish. Overacting by Rachel McAdams and a horrible score make this almost un-watchable. The 70's style of directing was painful to endure and split screen.....really? This should have been made in the 70's and in De Palma's mind it may still be so. Time to hang up the view finder Brian....please.
robcrawford From the minute this starts, something is just wrong, it simply isn't believable, just really really lousy.I watched it because I wanted to see what happened, but had guessed the outcome by the end. The characters are supposed to change, switching from seeming good to evil, but it just comes off confusing and ridiculous. There are many unexplained things in it, such as the finding of the phone, sudden appearances of characters, changes in behavior. It's really a terrible mishmash, leaving one of the cheapest, worn out explanations right until the end.It also looks somehow low budget, like it was made quickly for TV. This is the worst production I have ever seen Rapace in. McAdams is very beautiful and you can almost believe her as a manipulative boss, but she essentially falls short as well. The two of them completely lack chemistry. Not recommended.
tjmackey1432 Not too sure where to begin on this one. Once you get into the second half of the film you can really start to feel the DePalma aspects kick into gear. The camera-work is great as is expected. The only problem is that all of the split/screen and POV shots have already been done before and done better by DePalma himself nonetheless. Even the film itself is basically another variation of many of DePalma's earlier works, and again the downside to this is that he has done nearly everything in this film so much better in the past that it makes it even harder to appreciate any of the positive aspects of this film. Also doesn't help that the first half of the film is almost un-watchable in every way. Bad acting, bad writing, bad lighting, bad movie. With all of that said I am still a sucker for any and all of the old DePalma camera tricks and will always enjoy them even if I can't enjoy the rest of the film.
Claudio Carvalho "Passion" is a ridiculous remake of the great French thriller "Crime d'amour". The screenplay uses the same storyline and has minors but significant modifications when compared to the original movie that spoils the movie. The scene of the murder of Christine in the original movie is unbeatable. The police investigation of the evidences is very poor in this remake. The conclusion is awful. The decadent Brian De Palma still uses split screen technique but without any brilliance. The two lead actresses of the original movie, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier, are wonderful and their duel is engaging. However, Rachel McAdams never convinces as an executive and looks like a vulgar woman. My vote is two.Title (Brazil): "Passion"
