Wizard-8 I feel that I should first of all reveal that I was a teenager (the target audience) when this movie was first released, but even as a youth the movie struck me as being something stupid. In the years that followed, I kept hearing over and over positive remarks about the movie from people like me who grew up in the '80s. So when I stumbled upon a copy of this movie at a thrift store recently, I thought I would finally give it a chance. Let's just say that when it came to this movie, my younger self was a lot smarter. First of all, the central plot is completely unoriginal - it's the standard underdog struggling against sabotage and other challenges to prove himself story, complete with characters you've also seen before (the spunky kid sister, the disapproving parent who eventually changes her opinion, etc.) What is worse is that this particular telling is especially slow, even though the movie was clearly cut down in the editing room to try and speed things up (which does lead to some unclear details.) But what about the BMX stuff, you may be asking. Well, while there are a handful of (mildly) impressive stunts here and there, I actually found most of the BMX stuff boring, despite the movie being filmed by a former stuntman. BMX doesn't have the speed of motorcycle racing, nor does it have the especially dangerous aspect of skateboarding. It's flat stuff, even in the so- called "Helltrack" climax. It's no wonder the distributor of this movie only gave it a limited theatrical release, and probably also explains why the current rights holders of the movie have not given the movie a DVD or Blu-ray release.
peterpants66 OH MY GOSH YES! This movie is not for any wimps of cinema, it's for people who like to hang from helicopter sled's by their own teeth! Well this movie is about BMX life and culture, but that should be real obvious by the title itself. This is a true 80's film. Ninety minutes of countless montages, action, and one extremely sexy dance routine. This film has it all, it has romance, it has mind blowing BMX stunts, it has a great cast, and let's not forget the hair! If i was to go back to the turn of the century and show the people of the past what the future was going to look like, id bring this movie, although it may cause several things to happen including mass hysteria, suicides. They wouldn't live long enough to see this era unfold. Rad would just be a strange word, a passageway to another world, a means to express complex social situations in a short breath. So Cru, the local boy wants to be the best, but in order to be the best you have to Beat the best. Enter-HELLTRACK. This movie teases you with awesome biking throughout, and then hits you in the face with a sledgehammer at the end. The track is awesome, the music throughout is titillating, and any fans of Fred Savage's film "The Wizard" will relish at the sights accompanied by the unforgettable "Send me an Angel" song. I was watching the Wizard one time and this kid walked in during the Send me an angel montage and was cracking on it saying it was the worst song he ever heard. I promptly threw that sack of crack outta my house Immediately, nobody insults that song around me, No one. If i ever get married I'm coming out to the alter while thats playing riding a BMX. So if your looking for love calling heaven above, get on amazon and grab this sucka well they last. Unforgettable, ten stars.
chfahndrich This is one of the more memorable movies you'll ever see. When I was younger, I used to watch this movie several times a day. 'Rad' is a action-packed drama about a young boy I highly recommend watching this great movie. It has a great cast. The star is the lovable bmx bicycle-riding Christopher "Crue" Jones, and co-starring his love interest Christian (Lorie Loughlin!). The arch nemesis is rich, popular bmx rider Bart Taylor played by Olympic gymnast Bart Connors.Lines such as these listed are memorable: "Taylor stopping. He wants Crue Jones one on one!" and "That's Hollywood Mike Moranda, his second dramatic fall of the day." Mike Moranda, one of the random racers at Helltrack (Helltrack!) was supposed to turn around a steep bank, but decided to go straight and then jumped straight off the track. So funny. It's just so funny. Everyone should see this movie.
cool_cool_1 Rad (1986) is a really good movie, brings back memories of the 80's BMX craze, this is by far the best BMX movie made, BMX Bandits sucked!! The story is about this local BMX rider Cru Jones who enters a top class BMX competition called "HELLTRACK" with all the best BMX riders in the world, the HELLTRACK riders have all got massive sponsorship but Cru has to battle and fight just to enter the competition and get suitable sponsorship, will Cru manage to get into the competition and can he do the unthinkable and WIN!!! I give this movie 8/10, it's entertaining and fast paced with good racing action and a great soundtrack too, if you love the 80's then i highly recommend it for nostalgic value.
