swinggold A shy female office worker is attacked and raped in her apartment elevator by an unknown attacker. After already realizing all of the women at her job are having sex with their male superiors, she gives into her boss's seductions and discovers she's now become even more turned on by having multiple one-night stands with anonymous men especially when taken by force. As a devoted porn connoisseur, I was happy to find this title by accident. I normally refuse to watch a foreign movie that has no subtitles but this excellent bit of Japanese vintage soft porn is very easy to decipher. I don't condone rape and I abhor watching it in movies but this obviously takes a misogynistic look at the subject as if to say the woman should be enjoying it which is even more offensive to women but this is after all, porn. The story seems obvious: After being attacked, now she's having a sexual awakening and, despite never reporting the rape, is accosted by several of her male superiors at work and strangers on the street and in bars but she's just going through the motions trying to re-imagine and re-attain the high she got when she was first sexually ravished by her attacker. The sex is very strong and straight-forward, typical for a 70s soft core. (The Japanese take their porn very seriously to the point that it's a very mainstream part of their culture even today). The cinematography is excellent which is a hallmark of the 70s era when porn was still being filmed like regular movies instead of how porn is made today like a cheap webcam show in some motel room. There's a real plot which I wish I could fully understand but for the most part you get the gist by what you can see. It's vintage 70s. If you appreciate a good soft core like me, then you'll love this.
a_baron Actually, contrary to the somewhat surprising majority opinion here, I thought this film was awful, and then some. I watched it right the way through without subtitles, and it loses nothing in translation. The heroine was a cute chick, and I can't see anything culturally significant, didactic, tasteful or humorous about seeing her repeatedly violated. This film must surely be a favourite of the lunatic fringe feminazis because of the way it portrays men as misogynistic sexual psychopaths. Its only redeeming feature is that she killed the serial rapist at the end, but the film has no message except what, rape and gratuitous sexual violence is a turn on? In the underbelly of Japan maybe, but not in my dystopia.
soniakapoorfrnds RAPE! is yet another in a long line of rape-themed pinku films - a genre that I've grown to love of late. Mixing stylish cinematography with sleazy sex and violence - I just never seem to get bored of this quirky style of Japanese exploitation film-making. RAPE! is not particularly my favorite of this sort of film, nor is it my favorite of director Yasuharu Hasebe's works in particular - but it's still a "fun" time for fans of this sort of material...A naive and "inexperienced" office worker is raped in an elevator on her way home from work. The next day at work, her boss (who has a reputation for boning the female assistants) asks her out to dinner and she agrees. After dinner the boss takes her to a "love-hotel" and basically rapes her too - not as blatantly or brutally as the elevator incident - but it's pretty clear that the young lady is not real interested in his advances. After these two harrowing experiences, she is raped yet again by another office worker, which is pretty much the last straw for our poor heroine. Deciding to take her sexuality into her own hands, the office-worker begins to indiscriminately sleep with random people - even those that just ask for her "company" off the street, and including a somewhat sad, yet amusing scene with two young guys who use her as an endurance test. Simultaneously, the film follows the elevator rapist as he goes on a rape spree - and it's also alluded to that he only enjoys raping women who fight back, as opposed to those RAPE! is yet another in a long line of rape-themed pinku films - a genre that I've grown to love of late. Through random chance, elevator rapist and the office-worker victim are reunited, and the victims unresolved feelings are addressed once and for all...Not as strong as the hyper-sleazy and violent ASSAULT! JACK THE RIPPER, and no where near the fun and silly atmosphere of STRAY CAT ROCK: SEX HUNTER or BLACK TIGHT KILLERS - RAPE! falls somewhere in the middle of the pinku-realm, with tons of sleazy rape material and a bit of violence - but it never quite goes completely over-the-top, nor does it become a parody of the situations portrayed. The storyline is straight-forward and solid, and the acting is on par with other productions of this sort. Neither the sex nor the violence are anything extremely notable, this one relies more on plot and a sort of "twist" ending which works. Personally, I wouldn't rate it amongst the best of the genre, but I would say that it should definitely be sought out by enthusiasts of pinku material...7/10 that begin to "enjoy" the experience.
