nusserj This movie portrays the common challenges that can confront typical families. It shows how the people in our lives can play a critical role in helping each of us through difficult times. This film is little sappy with several moving scenes that pull on the heart strings, but it succeeds in providing an uplifting message that is suitable for all. Though this movie is set around a Mormon family it is as well done as other movies in this genre and provides quality viewing for the entire family.
Bobbi Alexander Koala A bit weepy, but wonderful just to hear the music and to feel the spirit.Enjoyed getting to see some of the process of auditioning for and becoming part of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Nice to see some teenagers being portrayed as caring and decent individuals. We need more entertainment like this that support family, Church, and community. The uncle was especially well played and a nice touch.Great date night movie with my darling spouse. Not a masterpiece but had to give it the highest rating to compensate for the one totally inappropriate and frivolous review.
asp-91017 I came to the movie with the expectation that there would be good music to listen to and the music in the movie was good as I expected it would be. There were three touching vignettes within the movie. This would have made a very fine 5 minute Mormon Ad for inclusion on their website, but as a full length movie it was very disjointed, also contained long scenes designed to deliver not so funny punch lines. Many of the emotional scenes are very specific to LDS understanding and don't lend themselves to general viewing audiences. The movie was very short on story content and what story content there was was very predictable. Over all it had the feel of a junior high presentation, great deal of good intention but short on delivery.
carollyne-29777 A number of friends and my husband and I watched this tonight and all of us enjoyed it. It hit many emotional chords, so take your Kleenex! It is not the plot that Joseph Smith - another reviewer - claims it is. He clearly has not seen this film - or if he has, he is not describing the story we just viewed - it has nothing to do with "someone joining the church or being brainwashed or wearing magic underwear or going to the temple." It is an inter-generational family story that illustrates what commitment to family members means, shown through a very difficult decision a family has to make together - a choice between two good options that will affect them all. Yes, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings, but nothing else from the church is shown other than the buildings the main character goes in and out of to get to her singing practices! I recommended it to my children and grandchildren as it has something for many age levels. One gal leaving the theater was 91 and she loved it as well.
