Horst in Translation ([email protected]) This is another short film starring Clive Owen as a mysterious driver. The whole thing runs for 9 minutes, but the last 2 minutes are credits. Owen was still a very possible candidate for stepping into Pierce Brosnan's shoes as James Bond when this was made almost 15 years ago, He did not get the part, but at least he could drive Madonna around in this short movie. The queen of pop music plays a more extreme version of herself in here, a superstar with massive airs and graces. Obviously, this is also a sarcastic take on what media report on Madonna in terms of her alleged narcissism. The writer and director here was Guy Ritchie, Madonna's newly-wed husband. The action is not too memorable, but it's not too bad either. The whole thing gets rounded up with a catchy tune by Blur. All in all worth a watch, even if the drama from the other entries to Owen's driver series is not really there this time. Probably the funniest out of these. Recommended.
TBJCSKCNRRQTreviews The only problem I have with this commercial, the only thing in it that makes me like Ambush better is that it's based almost entirely on the humor... and unlike action, humor is not a good enough base for a car commercial... at least not for me. Ambush was primarily based on action, but also had some humor. This is almost all humor, and not great humor at that(not in my opinion, anyway). Guy Ritchie is a talented director, and his stylish direction really helps here... in fact, had it not been his style of fast-paced editing and overdone sound effects as well quickly changing camera angles, I probably wouldn't have cared too much for this commercial. The humor just was too lame for my tastes... OK, we have this big star who's convinced that she's better than anyone else and constantly gets what she wants. How old is that? Madonna does this part well, but the jokes are just too old. Clive Owen stills does great work as The Driver, but his character was a little too... childish, I think, in this one. The ending was good, with the stuck-up star getting what she deserves, but it's still just a tad dull. The car-chase stuff was cool, though, and Ritchie's stylish direction make this worth watching. I recommend this to fans of Guy Ritchie and the The Hire commercials. 8/10
etimago Oh my, this is by far the most exhilarating of the BMW films... Clive Owen's antics are just amazing, especially since he's always behind the wheel... One thing I've noticed, that a lot of people have missed out, is that Glen, the spineless manager, obviously hired the Driver to do all these stunts... just listen carefully to their phone conversation... breakfast, lunch and dinner... Even though Song 2 is a bit old and overused, it's just so appropriate for this video... the way it comes back on the chorus just as the car lands is just perfect :)Anyway... Gotta love BMW's M5, truly a rather frightening car, which yet looks so unassuming.. :p I suggest you look up the british TV show Top Gear's review of it... Gotta start saving up for one ;)As for the person wondering how they did some of the filming from the angle of the car with a fixed camera at a distance, the camera is fixed to the car, you can see that in the "making of", I guess they just camouflage the mounting hardware, most likely digitally. Anyway it gives a seriously impressive (yet videogame-y) effect.Anyway I give it a hearty and well deserved 10/10, and shall now attempt to perfect my handbrake-turning skills :D
maddylover The movie is perfect! Madonna in a superb role as a bitch, perfect music from blur, song 2. Too bad that it's just a movie on internet, because you have to see this on a big screen with the music loud, VERY LOUD! Guy Ritchie is one of the better directors of the last 2 years. And it's only a commercial for BMW!!! Perfect!
