stamdedo This is an excellent movie, it deals with the fact that Jesus could not have been resurrected. The Christian theology is just a fable. It is always Christians claiming that Jesus died for their sin, that he was crucified tortured and died. But any examination of scriptures will show that Jesus cried to god to be saved. This movie deals with this fact. Excellent acting especially Antonio Banderas. One thing I did not like is the cinematography, it is a bit dark and vistas taken during the shoot were limited. There is also the problem of movie shot mostly in studios and indoor. It would have been better is more open spaces were included in the shoot. Over all it is still a great movie to watch and ponder about.
MrCallanan This movie has a mix of romance, religion and action and is quite interesting as it creates the suspense throughout the whole movie and asks the question of "Is religion real?" or if Jesus really existed. It involves the development of friendships, political tension, science and religion, all conflicting with each other. Antonio Banderas playing the main actor probably contributed the extremely well presented part, as well as the characters Sharon Golban and the typical bad guy Abu Josef. This movie contains a balance of action, talking and also theory so thinking about thinsg would probably be a good skill to have when watchnig this movie. Also, there are a lot of twists and turns, especially the ending! To conclude, the movie is good and I would recommend it to anyone who would be willing to watch a movie abuot religion and what happens when things conflict with it. by CLSJC
katest In contrast to the other scathing reviews, I believe this movie is a solid display of a "what if?" Dependant upon a person's religious faith, the movie may not be of interest to them. However, if you give it a chance, even if you are solid in your Christianity you will enjoy the film. The movie's plot revolves around the interfacings of three primary faiths: Judaism(Israeli); the Islamic (Palestine); and the Roman Catholic church (selected as it is the largest Christian sect). The plot revolves around a body, found crucified and hidden behind a wall, from the time of the Christ. The movie is not designed to change the faithful's viewpoint, in fact, just the opposite. I think if you are Christian this will deepen your beliefs. The movie, rather, explores what would happen in the hotbed of the middle east (East Jerusalem) if such a discovery were made. The politics, and ultimately, the violence. The movie is set well and also does not overly dramatize the setting. I have many friends from that region that said it is well done. All interactions between the three faiths are extremely respectful and you can learn something from the movie. If you like intellectual movies, this is definitely one for you.
srobidoux The only fault I can find is the premise that Banderas is a priest and ex secret agent; that and the guy assigned to watch things has an uncontrollable urge to lean out a window when using a telephoto lens. But all movies have such flaws. I think it's great. I'd recommend it to anyone. The cast is good all around. There's not the shootout of the type in other Banderas movies or large numbers of spontaneously exploding cars. It's thought provoking and timely. On one hand, the conflict over scripture and archeology is ever-present. And the conflict over Jerusalem will be with us a long time as well. I thought this movie did justice to all sides. At the same time it showed all are human. Not easily done these days.
