Reviews

macpharlan I finished watching this movie and was surprised on how it could only get a 5/10, although the acting was lacking, the story was compelling especially being based on actual events.Reading through the reviews it seems that this truly is a tale of two view points. If you like a fact based movie, or can relate to a religious minded community, or even if you are not religious but can see how a religious community would take this event as faith building, you will love this movie. The other half of the reviews that give this a 1 are mainly summed up thus. You either hate religion in general and are offended that a religious community would give credence to their God for what they plainly see as a miracle, or you are of the other spectrum, you claim to be a religious person but are bigoted towards religions that are not yours. This was a faith based community that obviously sees this experience as a miracle from God, it does not attack other faiths, if this was a Muslim community it would be praise to Allah, not sure why you want to change the facts to make everyone happy.
Peggy Blackwell I love watching a true story as there isn't always a storybook ending. This movie has true suspense and shows inter-personal relationships as well as delves into the struggle of a person's crisis of faith in a world of evil. Since I had never heard of the situation, I had no idea what would transpire. The movie was interesting all the way through and had surprising aspects to it. It makes a person have to consider what the captives stated happened. I think this is a good movie for all except young children due to the subject matter. It had no cussing nor sexuality which was nice in a world of movies filled with both.
Gail16 I believe in God, prayer, and miracles. This movie brilliantly illustrates all three. I see there are several folks offended by the beauty of this movie and I understand how they feel. Most television shows and movies have "social messages" that are offensive to me in terms of language used or belief set, and therefore I don't watch them. If I inadvertently watch a movie that offends me, I will not write a negative review, because I respect the opinions of all people and love all people, as God loves me. This movie is beautiful, inspiring, and heartwarming. We serve an awesome God. Let's stop hating those who have different beliefs from ours. "Let us love one another, for love is from God" James 4:7
jgoodwin-49383 If you can't have faith in god, I can't stay with you anymore. That's almost what this mother of 2 says to their grieving father... I fail in admiring the Christian influence in this philosophy. I did not detect right away the Mormon's hand (damn! They getting better at this) and was ready for a good hostage thriller situation which turned out to be a movie about forgiving the lord and ourselves. I must admit the characters were well played although a bit to high lined for me. The end has it's twist, keeping you wondering if even the bad guy was knowingly playing god's game in all this... The intention sadly is too flagrant to successfully hide herself in this "fait divers" and not leek a touch of American destiny manifest
