Steamy McGeany I saw absolutely no effort put into this film what-so-ever other than overused dramatic camera angles. The movie was cliché as heck, it had very cheesy dialogue, it had the most stupidest moments ever, and there was very little suspense. If you wanted the gory bits of a zombie movie, this is NOT the once for you. There's barely any gore. Just a guy getting his knee cut and dried blood on all of the zombies. Did you guys know that when you get bit, your clothes automatically become torn and shredded? I never knew that until this film showed me. Huh...Most of the characters are either unlikable or do absolutely nothing to help push the plot forward. They only two people who were actually busting butt to help the group survive in the majority of the film were the two dudes, and that black dude REALLY kicked butt, even with a cut knee. But boy, when I said stupid moments, I mean REALLY stupid moments. They we're driving in a van and this zombie girl is just standing on the street, but instead of RUNNING the zombie girl over, they slide off the road and total their vehicle and injure one of their guy's legs... to save a FREAKING ZOMBIE! And there's this one scene where three guys are running from zombies, and one of them gets bit and starts to turn. The other two obviously know that he is going to into a zombie, but do they run? NO! They just stare at him for one full minute while the camera zooms in his face to show how freaky it is when he's transforming. When he finally turns into a zombie, THEN they run! I was literally screaming the whole time, "RUN! FREAKING RUN! OR HIT HIM WITH THAT AXE! YOU HAVE AN AXE! FREAKING PUT HIM DOWN BEFORE HE EATS YOU!"But the ending is just the WORST!!! The worst zombie ending ever! They all think they made it to the helicopter, flying away all safe and sound, but NOOOOO! It was just a DREAM! Instead, the helicopter abandons them on the roof and the last two survivors become zombie country buffet. Freaking clichés... It's like they couldn't decide to put a happy ending or a sad ending, so they decided, "Screw it, let's do both, and make the happy ending all just a dream." Wow. What a slap to the face.Sorry to be blunt, but this movie made me so angry, I HAD to make a review of it.
kosmasp My summary line is actually the title the movie got released in Germany! Yes they changed "Demented" into "Terror Z". Actually not only that, they used a still from "I spit on your grave" with Sarah Butler holding an Axe. Talk about "demented"! But that is not the reason why I only gave this movie 3/10.It starts pretty much like your standard/average horror movie cliché. But it's 6 instead of usually 5 young people meeting up to go to a cabin (with just one car, which kind of makes sense). The ratio is 3/3 (male/female that is) and obviously you get beautiful people/actors starring in the movie. Which I don't have a problem with. And it's not like this is a movie where there are big acting challenges. Look scared, be angry, be terrified. Feel hurt and some other basic things, that are checked (cliches again). It still had some nice moments within, though I myself wouldn't count the ending as one of them. Apart from being dragged out, it tries too much to be clever. Didn't work for me
ihearthorrorfilm I have to give the first positive review for this film because the ones available at the moment are terribly close-minded and harsh. The consensus of the current reviews bitch and moan about the ending, which I felt, was incredibly realistic. I actually found that to be a quality most likable about this film is its ability to be realistic for such a low-budget zombie film. By realistic, I mean that the characters are relatable when it comes to their reactions and their fates. They make choices and they die like one actually would given there be a zombie apocalypse. It is difficult to write a zombie film that stands out anymore due to our zombie obsessions. That being said, sometimes its fun just to watch a film that portrays that very situation, play out naturally without there being something totally new and never-before-seen. CHILL OUT people!! It's a low-budget zombie film! I don't know why people expect so much from films, especially the low-budge indies. If you're not pretentious and/or jaded, but you like a fun zombie apocalypse film, then you will probably have a fun Sunday afternoon watching The Demented. Plus, let me just point out that the zombie sleeping thing was incredibly creative and really very creepy in my opinion. That was a super cool new zombie characteristic, mad props to the writers on that. Please like me on Facebook! ASouthernHorrorFan "The Demented" continues the saga of an apocalypse where rage zombies plague mankind. The film is directed by Christopher Roosevelt and stars Kayla Ewell, Richard Kohnke, Ashlee Brian, Brittney Alger, Sarah Butler and Michael Welch. The story is a standard melodrama filled with carnage and mayhem as a group of friends head out for one last get- together before heading off to their own futures. Throw in a terrorist attack, which leads to an outbreak of mutant rage zombies, who spread like wildfire through the effected community, and "The Demented" gives us another thrill ride into a nightmare zombieland. "The Demented" story is a typical one with arrogant yet reflective youths looking to bond fighting unimaginable horrors. I didn't find any real holes in the plot line or characters stories which happens a lot in films. The terrorist attack is a familiar one but it is fresher than the standard schlock for "how zombies are made". It plays closer to the viral outbreak in other more powerful zombie tales like "28 Days Later" and "The Devil's Playground". However this is a new geographical location of the outbreak-bayou country and small town America. The actual outbreak happens over the New Orleans area but the college kids are at a family home far outside the city in a smaller community. It allows for the action and story arch to maintain an affected level of entertainment without seeming redundant or boring. I found the characters likable and believable. I actually connected with them and the story managed to keep my attention through the whole film. The special effects and action sequences in "The Demented" are intense and very commanding as the cast fight (and as some die) to get to the safe location of extraction. The thrills and even chilling moments are evenly spaced and timed well enough to create tension enough for excitement. The zombies are not the tradition creature we expect but more bleeding rage virulent humans with homicidal tendencies similar to "The Crazies"-fast movers that created even more thrilling action packed moments on screen. I enjoyed the added little element of the zombies "suspended state" when the smell or sound of the living wasn't stimulating them. "The Demented" isn't really anything knew for the zombie genre but the film gives a solid story and plenty of intense action. The acting is as good as some big budget flicks and for the most part "The Demented" delivers a good level of entertainment. I enjoyed this one as much as the other zombie films I mentioned in this review.
