Synopsis

In February of 1959, nine Russian hikers ventured into a remote area of the Ural Mountains. Two weeks later, all of them were found dead. What happened is a mystery that has baffled investigators and researchers for decades. It has become known as the Dyatlov Pass Incident. When five ambitious American college students are issued a grant to return to the site of the original events, they gear up with the belief that they can uncover and document the truth of what happened to the supposedly experienced hikers. But what they find is more shocking than anything they could have imagined. Retracing the steps of the Russians' ill-fated journey, the students are plagued by strange and increasingly terrifying phenomena that suggest that in spite of the desolate surroundings, they are not alone. The forces at work in the Dyatlov Pass Incident have been waiting for them.

Michael Ledo Holly (Holly Goss) leads a group of five students into the Mountain of the Dead to investigate the unexplained deaths of nine hikers...back in 1959. Their party goes missing and the bulk of the film is "found footage" hacked off the Internet. The group loosely mirrors the Scooby-Doo gang. The plot reminded me of "Yellow Brick Road" while the basic flow of the film was similar to "Frankenstein Theory." The film keeps you engaged by dropping hints and clues along the way as our group wildly speculate as to what happened. 40 minutes into the film they arrive at the camping spot with an hour of film left. Like "Yellow Brick Road" their electronic devices act up. Unlike "Yellow Brick Road" you actually get to know what happens as all the clues neatly come together in the end.I found the film well done for the "Found Footage" genre. The storyline combined multiple films and ideas to give us a something on the unique side. Worth viewing, especially for fans of "found footage: films. Oh yes, at the camp site they also have toast on a stick for you old Bud Melman fans.Parental Guide: I recall one quick F-bomb. Near sex scene. No nudity. Sex talk.
warren1128 I don't want to over-sell it, but what's discovered at the end makes it worth watching the entire boiler-plate, lost footage film.Yowza! I ain't seen that explanation before. Loved it.
nellisnrx This movie has a decent bass to its story line. Consistently mentioning the real life incident in almost every scene and there is rarely any scenes where the movie tries to be anything more than about the incident itself. The movie is not spot on with the non fictional side of things, but it's decent enough. As for the fictional characters who are traveling to the original sight, their all different and at times give you an insight as to what it would possibly be like if you were there with them. However, this is not to say they or the script is without its faults. Without giving anything away, all I can say is, its a horror movie, I can almost say it lives up to its name in that sense however its some clichés mixed with a weird and honestly complex ending that let this move down a little.Overall, this movie did a decent job with the mixture of fact and fiction, my advice is, if the real life incident interests you, I would still watch it, just remember the movie will be given a make over, if you just like horror movies, again its a good watch, but I'd advise that you study on the incident first before watching it as the movie does leave out quite a few details. Best quality - A good mixture of fact and fiction Worst quality - perhaps not the best ending.
Paul Magne Haakonsen "Devil's Pass" (aka. "The Dyatlov Pass Incident") is one of those types of movies that sets out to accomplish way to much than it could actively deliver. And to top it off it is even in the God-awful found footage mockumentary genre, complete with the obligatory questionable camera-work.A group of Americans travel to Russia in order to unravel the mystery behind the mysterious Dyatlov expedition, but they eventually find themselves way in over their heads.I must admit that the movie was somewhat of an ordeal to sit through because it was uneventful, incredibly slow-paced and the characters had the personalities and traits of wet cardboard.I loathe the found footage movies, especially with the shoddy and questionable camera-work that is all over the place. When I sit down to watch a movie that I paid money for, then I expect to get a proper movie with proper production value, and not just something that I could have filmed myself. This was a very dull movie experience, and one that I can't recommend to anyone. It is simply just not worth the effort.
