Eric Stevenson My suspicions were confirmed when I thought that this movie would be great fodder for "Mythbusters". They could have gone on forever with the deaths in this movie. This movie features a guy getting a vision of themselves and a bunch of people dying in a big accident. They save themselves and about eight or so other people only for them to die in horrible ways in the order they would have died in the accident. Hmmm, haven't I seen this in every other movie in the entire series? That's mostly because I HAVE!I generally oppose 3D because of the extra money you have to pay for glasses. Now I'm starting to oppose it because it looks horrible without the glasses. You can easily tell everything is just trying to jump out at you and it looks stupid. The acting in this film is downright terrible. The main character can't even show emotion as he's depicted being impaled. The characters are so stupid one doesn't even care that there's a massive fire as he wanted to see a race car crash. One guy is so weak his body is chopped up after being thrown into a metal fence. This is the one entry that even fans of the series hate. I really do hope the next one was the last as we could end on somewhat of a high note with that film. This movie did more or less confirm the theory that Death was deliberately giving people visions just to mess with them and it was Death's plan all along for them to die horribly no matter what they do. The moral really does seem like you shouldn't bother trying to stay alive because horrible things will happen no matter what you do. What a depressing thought. *
tub51461 Who in the blue decided gore is the way horror movies should be shown? I saw bits and pieces of the first three films and man I all wanted to do is throw up in disgust. Some yahoo with a sick mind calls this entertaining and most twisted. What the hell is wrong with this planet? Real life is twisted as it is with terrorism and mindless car accidents, murders committed all over. It's ugly. It's just plain sick to place Death on the silver screen for everyone to get extremely messed up and desensitized by this. Who knows? Perhaps, these folks may join ISIS because they won't be bothered by violence anymore."You call this entertaining? (Spits in the ground)" (Russel Crowe as Maximus, Gladiator, 2000)
Scott LeBrun Fourth entry in this series (advertised as the "last" one at the time) keeps the old formula going, with young Nick (Bobby Campo) given a premonition of horrific deaths to come. He and his friends are at a speedway, where, of course, horrible things do happen. And since these people and others are able to temporarily dodge Death, it will come looking for them again, in the typically elaborately orchestrated series of over the top set pieces. There's no way that these movies could possibly be taken seriously, not by this point. And the filmmakers (David R. Ellis, who directed the second movie, also directs this one) seem to know it all too well, often turning their entry into a cartoonish festival of death, destruction, and digital gore. It's so stupid at times that it's uproarious, and is not for people seeking a legitimately GOOD horror movie. You only need apply if all you want is to see people die in various disgusting ways. Not that "The Final Destination" is completely lacking in humanity, or any interest at all, but even its more serious portions just come off as somewhat laughable. Death is so eager to claim these chosen few that it keeps cheating one person who repeatedly attempts suicide. The movie is loud, slick, and crammed with CGI / 3D effects. Our cast isn't particularly appealing, even if the ladies (Haley Webb, Shantel VanSanten, Krista Allen as a hottie mom who stuffs tampons in her kids' ears) are strikingly attractive. Mykelti Williamson is wasted as a security guard mourning his late family. The best, most intense sequence involves a car wash. Otherwise, don't better with FD4 unless you're just looking for brainless fun.Six out of 10.
Rickting I like the Final Destination movies and have defended them to many but even the most loyal fan will lose patience with this. A young man foresees a racetrack accident and gets himself and several others away from the accident. However, they cheated death, which comes after them with a bunch of twisted freak accidents. The good second film and even better third film (Neither of which top the first) both tried to be their own movie. This is just the Final Destination formula stripped down to its bones; a rotting, stinking corpse of a horror film. No scares. No believability. No suspense. No emotion. This is nothing more than an artificial death machine where the characters are just flat and insignificant targets in a fairground shooting gallery. While the opening racetrack disaster, while ludicrous, is well made and there are the occasional tense thrills, ultimately this lacks the intelligence and fear of the other films. The Final Destination, meant to be the last one, isn't thankfully, as this would have been a terrible end to the series, although it's watchable if you're in the right mood.Despite his solid work on the second film David R Ellis mostly forgets to actually direct the movie. Scares are completely absent, the story is painfully predictable and suspense is fairly minimal. As for the death scenes, which is why many will have gone to see this (I watch the FD movies for the suspense even though they're not scary in a traditional sense), they were spoiled in the trailers. Even if you didn't see the trailers, terrible CGI, recycled ideas, a lack of tension and general dramatic flatness will leave the gore lovers unsatisfied. This has a rather light tone and seems to be going for comedy but forgets to actually add in any comedy. The finale is tense, but there isn't another solid set piece here. One is completely ripped off from the first film while another is ripped off from one of the FD novels released a few years prior to this. The writing is horrible also, failing to flesh out the characters in any way who aren't even given names in the end credits, but worst of all is the acting. TFD boasts possibly the worst cast I've ever seen in a film. They are trying to escape death and stay alive. I'm sorry, are we actually meant to care about these stupid characters? 3/10
