adonis98-743-186503 When an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, Melanie will risk everything to protect the people she cares most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world. The Host is a pretty slow movie in general but if you give it the right fair share of chance it truly shows it's true potentials and the acting was pretty damn good especially from Saoirse and Diane Krueger who plays the main antagonist. Definitely a movie that i would recommend you to check out soon. (10/10)
krice23 I was shocked, although not entirely surprised, to see that rotten tomatoes had reviewed this flick at 9%. I've rarely found myself in agreement with their ratings and this is no exception. This movie presents us with that rare alien, one that comes to colonize, yes, but let's face it, it's what we humans have done since the beginning of our social systems. One can literally count hundreds of conquerors throughout human history; ie: Tamberlane, Alexander, Ghengis Khan, The Ottoman Empire, Masedonia, Persians, Romans, Aztecs, Mayans, Spain, Great Britain, USSR, and of course, our own United States, who, lest we forget, not only stole this land from the original inhabitants but also waged a pretty successful war of genocide against them. Now, while the aliens did colonize our world, and replace us with their own (I don't know what you would call that if not genocide!), from their point of view they were replacing a savage, destructive, violent parasite, one responsible for unthinkable acts of cruelty against one another, as well as against animal species and our own environment, literally threatening our own exisistance with certain and eventual extinction. They replaced us with a peaceful civilization of kindness, order, and honesty, things we humans were never able to attain, even after millenia of life lessons and hundreds of millions of lives lost to Wars without reason, merit, or end. One gets the feeling that this easily could have been written to exemplify a cooperative approach to cohabitation, if only humans weren't so very concerned with borders, and what's known as "mine". Indeed, as much as I enjoyed the ending, I found myself rooting for a shared relationship between our leading lady and the two men her loved "her". After all, humans were almost gone, this was no time for the rules of monogamy if the species was to survive. Now, That's what I'd like to see in a film! Humans adapting as we always have in order to survive... together - and at the expense of no one! I say see it!
DestynneeRealta So, I forgot this was a Meyer book adaption, so I watched it.It was the eyes, they pulled me in. I have a thing for blue eyes in entertainment (Thanks DUNE).Anyway, the movie version wasn't bad. It was a interesting take on alien invasion movies, which I have grown up on. And LOVE.I can't say how on point to he book it is, or anything like that because I have not read the book, and probably wont. It felt like a teenish drama movie, like the Percy movies, and Hungergames, just this time with aliens. It really was surprisingly good. The acing was spot on. Saoirse Una Ronan, who plays the main character Melanie/Wanda, makes feel and see the difference when she switches between herself and the alien host. Which, as we have seen in other movies where one actor plays multiple roles, that is not always easy. Then add to it, that she was acting next to Diane Kruger, who played The Seeker/Lacey, and William Hurt who played Jeb, and you can see just how talented she really is.I found that at times I was rooting for the Host, and other times the Alien. Then I would be laughing. It's one of those movies where you see that a good story can happen without nudity, a lot of violence, or blood. Now, if this fits the book, NO IDEA.But, again, even if you are not a fan of the original creator, I would suggest you give the movie a chance.
Artur Machado Designated as an action/adventure/romance/sci-fi/thriller film it does not have any of that. It's a mix of everything that in the end equates to none of it at all. Never in my life have I seen such an illogical story in a movie so slow and boring and without action. Probably the teenage girls will be able to find some adventure/romance here because the main protagonist is going to flirt with two guys at the same time throughout the movie in "Twilight" style, which is not surprising if we take into account that this movie is also based on a work of that same author. This is just a really cheap bad romance (the focus of the movie) while aliens try to annihilate the last humans (scenario, and very secondary). The performances are also not convincing at all. Completely unbelievable.
