jsalwen I had the misfortune of seeing this movie while on vacation. It was about the worst movie I've ever seen. While as an atheist, I found the religion stuff to be over the top, that isn't the problem. If you want to see a good movie with religion in it, check out Frailty. My problem was with the story/plot, acting, and direction. Visually, it felt like I was watching a low budget TV movie (was it?). The acting was not so bad as to be funny, it was just totally uninspired. The main issue was the story. When the movie ended, I thought I missed something. NOTHING happened, except ...SPOILER ALERT other than the main character finding his faith, nothing happened. And if the movie is just about somebody re-enforcing his faith, then way have a the whole weird story. I just don't get it.
luminaire1 My wife and I just finished watching this and we both agreed that it was ultimately disappointing. The main problem we had with it was that the story was disjointed and didn't come to a persuasive and satisfying climax. I can't agree with most of the comments made previously. The acting was OK, the sets were ... fine, though not superlative as most previous reviewers thought. And yes, if you want a film that doesn't have a lot of vulgarity, violence, or gratuitous sex, then this would be a good choice. Unfortunately, the main problem here was the story. It was a confusing mix of a supernatural "thriller", a romance, a courtroom drama, and a "faith story." I'm still not exactly sure what happened in the end.I was disappointed because I wanted this story to work. It does has an element of religious faith in it and I was hoping that people of faith would be portrayed in a fair light, not as muddle-headed fanatics as so often occurs in films. Unfortunately, while the film portrays people who have some kind of faith fairly, they are not fully fleshed-out human beings, and so in the end fall into tired stereotypes (thus, the ex-missionary who spends most of her time doling out platitudes and praying). Too bad, because there was some promise here.
bigheart353 The deceptive cover, title and very small hidden print of Power of Prayer tricked me into renting this movie. It started out really well and pulled me in. I REALLY liked it. Between 1/3 and 3/4's of it, the film started throwing in things that were not set up and made no sense. My first thought was, "This is not written by someone who knows how to tell a story." I ended up re-watching parts of the movie, thinking I had missed something.By the time I reached the last 1/5 of the movie, it was all BORING, ANNOYING, RELIGION THUMPING DIALOG that made no sense, said nothing, and was annoying to listen to; I turned off the sound and did a fast forward to the end.Don't waste your time with this flick.Beware of DVDs labeled Whitlow Films and Level Path Productions. And I'm a practicing Catholic.
woody0023 I have nothing against religious movies. Religious people need something to watch on a Saturday night, I guess. But what really ticks me off is when the write-up on the DVD box does not indicate this fact to the potential viewer. Passing off religious propaganda as entertainment is NOT cool, bro.And even if I was a religious person, I would have to agree with most of the other posters here, this movie was a mess. Poorly directed, poorly acted, poorly edited, and the attempt at a soundtrack was hilarious. The fake accents were terrible, the characters were mainly stereotypes, and continuity was out the window. The only reason we sat through this lame waste of time was that it was too late to watch another movie instead. Should have just gone to bed.Absolutely no redeeming qualities to this movie, unless you are the religious type who will immediately endorse anything that will preach your beliefs to the unbelievers, even if it's a pile of garbage. If you aren't, avoid this at all costs. Do not be deceived by the box write-up.
