matiasmab If you like alien stuff, watching this movie is a must. It reminded me of "Signs" (2002, Mel Gibson) There is a good suspense, some action and clitché characters and the film feels really short. Great actors, especially the "Blade" guy, lol, this dude does certainly know how to make us laugh in an apocalyptic world.
viewsonfilm.com Five friends leave L.A. to hit the wilderness for a fun, relaxing vacation. Little do they know that Earth is the subject of an alien abduction and a target of mass destruction. That's the essence of The Recall, my latest review.Damaging the reputation of Canadian productions to a fault, "Recall" contains an Uber-twist and readily shortcuts its overall premise. It pastes some of its out of place scenes right from the get-go. One involves an unconnected, storm discovery at an Alaskan weather station. The other has to do with unknown astronauts getting their ears blown out in outer space. These clips vaguely connect to the overall plot and I do mean vaguely. A 1990 offering with a similar title (Total Recall), is ten times more exciting.Of all people, The Recall is produced by and co-stars Wesley Snipes. You wonder if Snipes was better off staying in prison for failing to file tax returns as opposed to appearing in the swipe that is "Recall". It's good to see that he's trying to be relevant again but his raspy, Snipes-like demeanor feels like it's coming from another flick altogether.Wesley gives a decent performance in The Recall as a renegade, extraterrestrial hunter. However, he is the only compelling thing in it. "Recall" is one of the cheesiest, most low budget offerings to ever enter the science fiction, horror canon. In jest, it's the equivalent of Predator, Cabin Fever, The 5th Wave, The Forgotten, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind committing a solitary gang bang. The cinematic toddler emerges and you could truly call it illegitimate. Hollywood may be germane but with "Recall", it reeks of assembly line fodder. All in all, it takes a good forty-five minutes for The Recall to get going. Added to that, the actors are all good-looking yet stereotypical with the ET taking element appearing customary and fairly outdated. There are times when you actually laugh at this movie calling it a special effects parody (the alien species look like red, tacky jellyfish). Other times, you roll your eyes at how "Recall's" twenty-something characters can be so run-of-the-mill and so wonted. Bottom line: With The Recall, Redbox fails anew for trying to be a credible way to rent something. No need to "recall" this thing after you see it. Rating: 1 and a half stars.
Bob Rutzel Here's the thing: Five go on vacation in the mountains, they meet an angry Hunter (Wesley Snipes) and then an Alien invasion breaks out worldwide. How could it get any worse? Let me tell you.The dialogues of the Five were sort of okay, the acting was sort of okay, but the decisions they make when they learn of the invasion leaves everything to be desired. They eventually learn to trust the Hunter and he has a story to tell. He tells them this has gone on before as the Aliens like to experiment on humans the same way we experiment on animals. He says the Aliens are after him, not them. The Hunter gives Charlie (Jedidiah Goodacre) and Annie (Laura Bilgeri) the keys to the boat so they can get away. The Hunter will stay and confront the Aliens and this is something he relishes. Notables to round out the Five: R.J. Mitte as Brendan; Niko Pepaj as Rob; and Hannah Rose May as Kara. We see two forms of Aliens: one looks like an orange floating jellyfish with tassels and the other looks like a monster Dr. Frankenstein could have made. (okay, maybe more ugly) There was never any communication toward the Five and the Hunter. In time all are abducted and when they come back to Earth, they have the markings they saw on the Hunter. There are some very gruesome scenes in the Alien ship. Charlie sees Rachel (Megan Pereira) who was his girlfriend in life, but who died in a car accident. She asks Charlie to let her go as he has had a very hard time missing her and believing he could have done more to save her before the car exploded. Whoever died is now alive. (Must have been good Aliens, eh?) Of course, this is not the end as it could have been. Oh, no, they are stopped by a police roadblock on their way off the mountain, and the intention of the police is to kill the Five for the government can't trust them and the officials have no idea what they are now capable of. Here again the Hunter appears. Here you will see the twist that you keep asking about. Remember the title of this: The Recall? Keep in mind the story the Hunter told and he seemed to indicate that the Aliens may have helped the Human Race to progress. The invasion did not kill anyone worldwide. Yes, the Aliens wanted to kill the Hunter because he had a score to settle with them. As the movie fades, it is not clear to me if the Five go back to their lives from which they came or did they go to the Hunter's cabin? Well, they are all now the same. See? (7/10)Violence: Yes. Sex: No. Nudity: Yes. Language: Yes.
mkjonestruckee I am a creepy horror alien film buff. I would have paid to see this movie in a theater as the effects would have looked great on a big screen. If you want entertainment, this is it. It is different, I usually can predict a film, couldn't on this one. It draws you in, the actors are believable and the director did a great job. If you want entertainment, a bit of a suspense and a lot to talk about after watching, this is the movie.
