Jermaine J-SKRU La Mont This Film actually has hidden gems. Gentrification is the main point. Do not sell your land and your heritage. Adapt to Capitalism and utilize it properly. I am from the original Bed-stuy that Biggie Smalls and Jay-Z are from and I can tell you that today in 2015 the hoods they rapped about (Myrtle Ave and Nostrand Ave - Marcy Projects- Dekalb Ave and Skillman Ave - LG Projects) are not the same at all. The Brownstone Heritage is lost and sold. I did research into the "Lenape Tribe" at the NATIVE American MUSEUM by Wall St, NYC and for sure the DUTCH were not here 1st. In fact, "MANHATTA" (the indigenous name) was never sold with a proper deed or contract. If it does exist, I would like to see it.
danceability-1 More than what it seems! Let's just say this film is full of surprises. I was impressed with the quality of the film and the overall cast as well. I would definitely recommend this movie! This film impressed me! I thought this would be just another NYC crime flick but they tackle some real issues that New Yorkers are experiencing in several of the newly gentrified neighborhoods. This movie also taught me some stuff I didn't know about New York City's first settlers (hint: it was not the dutch). Bryce Wilson and Mel Jackson are great on the screen. I would give 10 except for a couple scenes that are a little too corny, other wise a great flick! danceability-1, Amsterdam Holland
Torry Carter I recently had the opportunity to watch the film "The Stick Up Kids" and as far as indie flicks go, I'll give it an 8. I really liked this film and would have given it a 9 but there are a few corny scenes that threw me off guard. Otherwise, the storyline and cast is pretty impressive for an indie flick. The rivalry between the born and raised Harlemites and the wicked Slumlord is interesting and one of my favorite themes throughout the movie. The music selections are dope too and put a great finishing touch on the film. Some of the selections remind me of Johnny Pate "Shaft in Africa" or of Bobby Womack's "Across 110th St". Good work with this one!
elkin-663-500962 This film really impressed me! I thought this would be just another NYC based crime thriller but they actually tackle some real deal issues that New Yorkers are experiencing in several of the newly gentrified neighborhoods (Harlem, Williamsburg, Ft. Greene, Bed-Stuy). This movie also taught me some stuff I did not know about New York City's first settlers (hint: it was not the Dutch). Overall the cast if pretty solid. Bryce Wilson and Mel Jackson are stand outs, they did an excellent job in this one! Aside from some odd and corny scenes this DVD is pretty good all the way through. I'd recommend for a night with the fellas, kicking back and playing dice!
