tjvander-272-131829 Really good film but a total rip-off of Red Dawn. Even if it is based on a series of books, then the books are a total rip-off of Red Dawn, the story lines are practically identical. Enjoyed watching it but at the end I was expecting credits to say based on the original film 'Red Dawn,' because while good it is nothing more than an Australian version of that film. Credit needs to be given where credit is due.
Leofwine_draca TOMORROW, WHEN THE WAR BEGAN is another bland young adult film based on a novel which seemingly has no originality whatsoever. A group of teenagers go camping in the woods in Australia when their country is invaded and World War 3 begins. They then fight back, guerrilla-style. Yep, it's the same old story of RED DAWN, that 1980s hit about Russia invading America, playing out yet again and just as insipid as the RED DAWN remake. The acting is fairly weak, aside from an ever-feisty Caitlin Stasey who has grown up a lot since NEIGHBOURS. The endless emoting quickly sours the viewer while the refusal to name the invading countries smacks of political correctness (I'm guessing the coalition is made up of China and North Korea). Worst of all is the bland direction, with nothing you'll remember and nothing to stand out from beginning to end.
Takeshi-K If you've seen Red Dawn (either the original or the recent version) then you've already seen this movie. A bunch of scared high school children band together to fight against a foreign aggressor after their small town and presumably the rest of the country gets invaded. The identity of the invading nation is not mentioned, but we are meant to presume they are either a Chinese or North Korean army invading Australia. The characters are really one dimensional. Think soap actor style acting in a theater of war and you will get an idea of how the awfulness permeates this film. The action sequences are well directed and the special fx look pretty decent, a fact that saves this ordinary movie from getting a less than five out of ten star rating from me.
Splinkydog Started to watch this because of a maxim review. Told me it was an exhilarating ride of a movie. I was interested so I watched the trailer. It's nothing more than an Australian version of red dawn made for teens by teens. The original red dawn was outstanding, the remake was pretty good this movie falls somewhere between the butt crack and giblets of movies. Enough said. I watch a lot of movies and can tell you this is a bullet I dodged. I am so tired of these low budget quickie movies that are just put out to get something out there. If you can't make a decent movie, then why try at all? This movie is worse than sharknado. Get my point?
