mariusar Even the mighty Ving Rhames can't save this sad WD imitation. The words "barely serviceable" best describe this sub-par clone. Only worth a look to really appreciate the superb work in WD - and even then, only if you've already finished watching some paint dry. Otherwise, stay far away...FAR, FAR AWAY...
juneebuggy This actually started out with some promise. I liked how the audience is told and shown in grainy footage how and where the VM2 (zombie virus) started and where it spread to, a great opening. Unfortunately though it quickly turns into just another forgettable, somewhat entertaining horror flick. The special effects are bad, the zombies corny and recycled kill after kill. It's basically a road trip movie with a band of survivors heading to the rumoured refuge on the island of Catalina. Their plan is to catch a ferry to what they hope will be a zombie free zone. There are a couple of interesting story arcs along the way and I've never seen a zombie tiger so... that was something. I always enjoy Ving Rhames but damn he makes some questionable movie choices and Taryn Manning is also here in a lead role, same problem for her.Ultimately a decent enough zombie flick for fans of the genre. 4/10/13
devastationyay -If your going to make a zombie movie, at least put some stock into your special effects and makeup teams. If the film is going to have a generic plot with wooden acting, at least give us some good eye candy instead of the horrible CGI crap that is rampant in this movie.-I see a lot of people comparing this to the Walking Dead, and while I will agree this movie does have a guy good at archery and the "coincidental" name drop of that guy "Kirkman", comparing this mess to the Walking Dead is a travesty and just flat out dumb. Read the comics and you will realize how creating a character works, and it translates well to the show.-The Walking Dead has very complex character development, it is very believable of how people would react and change in that kind of crazy situation. This movie doesn't even have a fraction of that. The characters are blocky and don't seem to be affected by events that should shatter them.-Ramona and Billy are some of the most irritating characters maybe ever.-Too much CGI, bad CGI.-I love the zombie genre so I figured why not, I wish i hadnt.STOP COMPARING THIS TO THE WALKING DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
edwjoolee This movie was pretty bad. One of my favorite movies of all time is the original Dawn of the Dead. And one of my favorite directors of all time happens to be George A. Romero.I have noticed a revival of sorts of zombie themed movies in the last decade or so. I guess the most recent wave started with 28 Days Later and the Dawn of the Dead remake. In their wake, I have noticed a lot of badly made zombie films trying to cash in on their popularity.Zombie Apocalypse is bad. It sort of reminds me of the badly made Italian zombie films from the 80's: rambling plot progression, poorly written script and characters, badly made up zombies and poor special effects. Only thing that differentiates this film from those Italian films is that the characters here speak English and are not dubbed. At least the Italian films' poorly dubbed dialogue provided amusement and unintentional humor to them, making them somewhat watchable at least. Unfortunately, Zombie Apocalypse has neither the camp factor nor the unintentional humor to make it watchable in any way.But the true sad part is this: What the heck is Ving Rhames doing in this movie? I am beginning to notice him more in a lot of badly made straight-to-video films in recent years. I understand that he has bills to pay and family to feed, but please don't completely throw away your artistic integrity for a quick buck. Come on.I am giving this film a 4 out of 10, because it is a zombie film.
