c-computerkid I didn't watch DuckTales during its original run, but through the amazing resources of the Internet and DVDs I have been privileged to enjoy this truly timeless masterpiece. Sure, the 80s animation is a bit dated, but aside from that and a few cheesy moments, this show is gold.In a nutshell, DuckTales follows the exploits of billionaire Scrooge McDuck as he travels the world with his three great-nephews (Huey, Dewey, and Louie) in search of treasures. Rounding out the cast are Scrooge's incompetent, lovable pilot Launchpad McQuack; the McDuck mansion's snooty butler Duckworth; tech wizard Gyro; and housekeeper Mrs. Beakley and her granddaughter Webby.Really, DuckTales is like a Saturday morning cartoon on steroids. It features the typical adventurous plots you'd expect but mixes in wonderful writing and creativity. It's obvious the writers worked hard on these scripts, sprinkling in surprising wit and heartwarming conversations between Scrooge and his nephews. Thankfully, there's also no potty humor, something which has infested too many modern cartoons. The theme song is irresistibly catchy; once you've heard it you'll be singing it all day.Voice acting is solid here, featuring Mister Ed's Alan Young as feisty Scotsman Scrooge and Terry McGovern as hapless Launchpad. I also was impressed with the younger characters; their voices aren't squeaky or annoying. This is definitely a cartoon I'd show kids. It's entertaining for all ages and highly adventurous! Cancelling this and their other Weekday Afternoon cartoons was one of Disney's biggest mistakes. I believe DuckTales is the best of this collection, though in fairness I haven't watched much of TaleSpin. While it's not as flashy as newer cartoons, DuckTales makes up for this shortcoming with lots of heart. If you see this on DVD somewhere, don't hesitate to pick it up. You won't regret it!
Dark_Lord_Mark Ducktales was one of Disneys best. Kids after the mid 90's missed out on what real cartooning was.Sadly the first 60 episodes or so were 10 stars...then the SHARK HAPPENED AND ITS NAME WAS BUBBA! YEP BUBBA!!!! Scrappy Bubba Doo I call him, just an abomination of a character.THis show is a fantasy how should be, everything good....friendship, finding meaning and life is not about just money. My favorite character was Gizmoduck, because damn any SUPERHERO IS A GOOD SUPERHERO IN MY TOONS! You can read anyone elses synopsis, I will just praise that as GREAT! Despite Bubba, this is a 10.....Blathering blatherskite
moviecritichank-7 DuckTales is another one of the many great Disney (and overall) cartoons that came on in the late 80's-90's. It is about the adventures of Scrooge McDuck, millionaire tycoon of Duckburg and his three nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie who are always getting into trouble and out of it thanks to friends like Webby Vanderquack, Gyro Gearloose, and Launchpad McQuack. As a kid, I didn't watch this until the re-runs came on Disney Channel in the mid-to-late 90's, and I loved every episode! It has all the elements of "true" Disney: action, adventure, suspense, mystery, great stories, great characters, great animation, great villains like Magica de Spell and the Beagle Boys, great music, and an awesome theme song which I often find myself humming at the randomest times!!! As a kid, I also enjoyed "Darkwing Duck," "Chip and Dale's Rescue Ranger's," "Goof Troop," "TaleSpin," and all the other great Disney Afternoon cartoon's the 90's had to offer! This was, (and still is) however, my favorite of them all and easily one of my all-time favorite cartoons!!! I recently bought Volume 1 of this great show and since it has brought back so many nostalgic memories of childhood, I plan on getting Volumes 2-3 and Volumes of the other classic Disney Afternoon cartoons cause the garbage that Disney (with the exception of "Phineas and Ferb"), Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon is shoving down kids throats nowadays is brainwashing and it makes me sick!!! Anyways, back to the awesomeness of DuckTales; some of my favorite episodes are: the one where Scrooge and the boys have to save Donald from the spell of an evil mummy, the one where Launchpad and the boys accidentally get launched into space, the one where Gyro made those giant robots designed to help the city and the Beagle Boys use them to destroy it and, well, you get the idea!!! I love this cartoon!!! The movie "DuckTales: Treasure of the Lost Lamp" was pretty cool too!!! Rating: 10/10!!!
Lee Eisenberg On 18 December last year, Connie Hines passed away. Who was she, you ask? She played Carol on "Mister Ed". What's that got to do with "DuckTales"? Quite simply, Alan Young (who played Wilbur) provided the voice of Scrooge McDuck, affecting a Scottish accent. So, this show of course portrays tycoon Scrooge McDuck - how did he ever make all his money? - and his nephews. The episode that I best remember is "Earth Quack", in which the characters discover that Duckburg's seismic activity is being caused by subterranean beings. The obvious problem with the show is its glamorization of wealth, making it look cool that Scrooge is a millionaire (or billionaire; like Mr. Howell on "Gilligan's Island", it's never clear how much he's worth).Maybe "DT" isn't a terrible show, but it'll never be my favorite. I best remember Alan Young from "Mister Ed", and I best remember that show for Connie Hines. She was without a doubt one of the most beautiful and gorgeous women who ever lived.
