This is a very complex police show and I enjoy the characters and story lines, personal and business problems.

I loved how this series combined edge of the seat drama with a bit of Yorkshire down to earth charm. Sarah Lancashire plays the lead brilliantly well. There are several linked subplots and I was quite sad to see it all end.A few reviews on here touch on how the male characters were all portrayed badly. Well I'm as anti-feminist as anyone but I genuinely didn't feel that. There are numerous flawed female characters as well as males, and I don't feel writers should ever feel obliged to gender balance the nastiness!
William Corden... read 'em and weep
When a series sticks to the thrilling story, and doesn't get into the morass of messaging the cultural issues of the age, it can turn out to be mesmerizing stuff. It's a "Fargo" like production with a different twist and it keeps you spellbound throughout the series ( I'm only talking about season 1 'cos that's all I've seen so far.)
No compulsory Gay couples, no ethnic axes to grind, just a straight display of human frailties , greed and stupidity. That's all you need for engrossing TV!The acting is just a tour de force for all of the cast , each one eliciting sympathy, dislike and frustration whenever it's needed .One of the very best series that I have seen ( and I've seen a lot of them by now!)enjoy a binge watch... I'm going to do that tonight for season 2!

Raw edged, thrilling and engaging. Drenched in the local Yorkshire area, the characters seem to come all natural, ripped out of real life, full of human strengths and weaknesses. The story line has, for me, the right balance between rate of evolution and depth. This combination really has me engaged. Side note: season two has a couple of weak characters, rendering it lees interesting than season one.
