Ricky Gervais seems to do well by bringing UK and USA television broadcasters together to back his latest comedy project and make it work.Krod Mandoon follows a similar path, it even has a rising American comedy actor, Kevin Hart in an otherwise mainly British cast but his mix of Mel Brooks, meets Monty Python does not really take off.The series is sword and fantasy comedy as reluctant hero Krod Mandoon (Sean Maguire) a freedom fighter lacking in prowess and confidence takes on the the evil ruler, Chancellor Dongalor (Matt Lucas) with his band of inept freedom fighters. The highlight is the sultry India de Beaufort who uses sex as a weapon.Somehow the series is not that funny or clever, the slapstick is not that inspiring or surreal. If you looking for something in the vein of The Princess bride this is not it.

I rate this programme a two out of ten for the three moments it managed to make me laugh, the hero hitting his head on a post, the name of the Emperor (Emperor Zainus) and a character called Horst Draper. These things didn't manage to make me laugh much, mind you. This is just really, really bad. It's like the writers decided to pick all the worst elements of comedy, particularly American comedy, and put them in one programme. There are annoying anachronisms (the baddie suggesting people send out for 'coffee and muffins' - this alone is jarring as it is said by someone British, that it is said by a supposedly mediaeval leader makes it much more so), there are ridiculous, over-laboured stereotypes (the black sorcerer, the gay one, the slutty woman), poor slap-stick and gratuitous, unfunny sexual references which just don't fit with the 'lighthearted' feel. Compare this to the BBC's excellent radio comedy 'Elvenquest' and Krod Mandoon's complete and epic failure is obvious.I was worried about this programme from the moment I read in an interview that the American television network insisted on the lead character having an American accent. Not to worry, I thought, so long as it is good that probably won't annoy me too much. It is not good, it is worse than I thought it could be - not the worst comedy the BBC has shown in a while (Coming of Age springs to mind), but a ridiculously poor effort, especially considering the huge budget.I suppose this was to be expected, the title of the show alone is inane. 'Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire'. Well, things that are flaming tend to be on fire.

I enjoyed watching this show, and no my IQ is not under 90 (which is considered an average persons IQ :) ) There are many gags that are new as fantasy/comedy has not been done as well before this. The very fact that the show is so tongue in cheek makes it funny. Plus the characters and their defects and hang-ups add a lot of humor to the situations they find/place themselves into.If you enjoy fantasy movies/novels LOTR, Terry Brooks Sword of Truth series and show "legend of the seeker". I would definitely recommend this just for the lampooning of fantasy monsters and characters that are on the show! Yes it is sophomoric humor, but that is why the show is on Comedy Central.

Not a series to be taken seriously, as you can probably tell from the title. But if you like sci-fi/fantasy type movies and comedies, then this is definitely for you. The strong point of this show is the wide array of ridiculous characters. I enjoy Dongalor (the villain) the most as a character... but there are plenty of memorable ones. The General, Horse Rapist, the weapons inspector, the Innkeeper..etc. The humor is a little on the cheesy side...but it's endearing. This show sold me after the first episode and I ordered the season off itunes. I would definitely give this my recommendation for anyone that enjoys movies such as Zoolander, Dodgeball and their ilk.For an overall score, I gave is show 8/10
