Sleek Chick
Oh my God. I am beign forced to watch this show by my soon to be ex. I cna not describe how bored at how of my skull I am right now. I am a girl who actually enjoys action shows. I like fast paced action. So this is not a case of a female not enjoying action films and TV. No, this is a female HATING a show that is so old that it is impossible to enjoy. But maybe its not even that. I can only movies way bad to the 1930s. But this ? This crap all seems contrived. Magnum does not seem intelligent whatsoever. The acting (aside from hillerman - who seems so out of place) is wooden and laughable. Females all seem like dim-witted dopes. Seriously, how did show last so long ? I love a lot of war related movies. But I can;t even miuster any interest in Magnum's military flashbacks. Again, boring and contrived. Selleck is so flat and empty seeming. Why anyone would watch this show on purpose decades later is baffling to me.

For a 1980's show this is a real good one. Tom Selleck is Magnum, he is a private investigator who gets to live on the estate of a writer with way too much money. John Hillerman (Higgins) is great as the majordomo/manager of the Hawaii estate. He is a retired British sergeant major. Magnum and Higgins are at odds a lot of the time. It is usually pretty funny. There are two doberman's named Apollo and Zeus that appear to be under total control by Higgins. The dogs are kind of a foil in regards to Magnum. At times Higgins calls them off and at other times they are used to intimidate or coerce Magnum to do something Higgins wants. The episodes run from just funny to very serious. Magnum usually doesn't kill anyone but does at rare times. Roger Mosley is the Nam era chopper pilot now with his own chopper conducting tours of the islands, IF he is not suborned by Magnum. Rick is another Nam vet who helps from time to time, he usually runs the bar at an exclusive club but pitches in when needed. The scripts are fairly good, the acting is average, the casting though is pretty good and the women are of course very nice. I like this series because it is just nice entertainment.

A man, his mustache, a Ferrarri, loyal friends, beautiful Hawaii .... What more could you want? Thomas Magnum (Tom Selleck) is employed on the Hawaiian estate of a wealthy absentee owner name Robin Masters. The estate is run by Jonathan Higgins (John Hillerman) who mostly tolerates Magnum's presence as head of security on the estate. Helicopter pilot TC (Roger E. Mosley) and club owner Orville 'Rick' Wright (Larry Manetti) are war buddies from Vietnam. This is classic 80s Television. He is not only cool but very personable. Women love him and guys want to be him. He is eminently recognizable as an iconic TV detective. It does get a bit convoluted in the later years but overall, this is one of the best of the genre.

*may contain spoilers* I vaguely remember watching Magnum as a child and liking it then.Recently I bought all four available season sets and fell in love with it all over again. What is there not to like? The cast gel together so well Larry Manneti (Orville "rick" wright) is brilliant. Roger E Mosley is TC and John Hillerman is Higgins. Higgins always pretends to be irritated to death by Our Thomas but he does care (honestly) The stories are engaging and I just love tom Sellecks narration. I like the dark overtones of the fact that these Vietnam Vets are still coming to terms with their experiences.Favourite episode? the season 4 opener "Home from the sea " Magnum is thrown off his surf ski in an accident and forced to endure hours in the water. Cue heartbreaking childhood flashbacks. Will Higgins, TC and Rick get to him in time?. speaking of which all three are getting a funny feeling that something has happened to Magnum. How long can a person tread water for? "I've got to do this for Dad"This show had action, Tragedy, Romance, one hunky guy, beautiful scenery,a great cast , humour and a lot of touching moments. One of my favourite shows ever.
