kmkinmass Many homeowners are actually frustrated with the type of contractors out there. It is usually difficult to find a quality, efficient and ethical contractor in a decent price range without going high-end. It has become very frustrating. So, when a homeowner is trying to fix and update areas of their home in a quality manner with style, it becomes very frustrating watching the property brothers and others "dreams come true" projects (which are high-end).If there are more contractors in a reasonable price range like the property brothers, then life would be easier. But there are not. So, I can't watch this show anymore because it is unrealistic and frustrating. It's so much easier to find an electrician or painter only. I am beginning to despise the word "contractors" because many of them gave their own profession a bad rep.
rodneyalberta Watching an episode of Property Brothers and the young couple has 1.1 million to purchase a house. They look at a house that is too expensive (as everyone of these episodes goes) they get angry because they cannot afford it and ask the scripted question, "Why would you show us a house we cannot afford?" More scripted answers, then they show two or three really ugly houses. My question is why would you spend all of that money to rehab an old ugly house only to discover there are "hidden" problems that will magically be solved for all or nearly all of your max budget, instead of just BUILDING A NEW HOUSE??? It could be an excellent show except for the scripting and high reno and staging costs. Why do the brothers have to pick such absurdly expensive furniture and appliances, most of which I would prefer to pick out myself? I also wonder how many of these homeowners end up being disappointed about spending so much money? I know, it is HGTV but some of this stuff is absurd.
slfisher70 This show is the poorest example of re-use re-purpose anything. Please do not have them do a historical home or it will end up with laminate floor their favorite and all the character will be torn out of the house. It seems like they ALWAYS have BIG surprises that cost the homeowners a chunk of change. I am not sure who they use for home inspections but they may want to find someone new. I would be mad if I bought a home and found out I need all new plumbing and or electrical. The last thing I would pay for is laminate floor in a "high end" up grade. Just a waste of time. THe new homeowners take them for their word. $3000-5000 for a header in a room. Who the heck are they using? Are they using solid steel headers for large spans? I know they custom order furniture which cost mega bucks and they could allow the homeowners more involvement in the decor side. stopped watching when they tore out an entire first floor of original hardwood floor on a period craftsman BECUZ they removed one wall and would have to find floor to match the small area they took out. Ripped it all out and put in laminate. What idiots allow them to some of the things. Tear out solid wood cabinets for some of the cheap laminate crap they put in is a shame. The never talk about refacing a cabinet or painting cabinet to save on money. Rehab attic and fixer upper BETTER CHOICES!
Susan McCrindle Property Brothers is undoubtedly my new guilty pleasure!! I've been watching home renovation shows for awhile, but this is the first show that consistently leaves me wanting more (I'm even hooked on the reruns! LOL)! Jonathan & Drew are so down-to-earth and bring a great balance of humour while showing how buying a fixer-upper is feasible to most any budget. I've learned more about the process watching them then I have with any other show and laughed along the way too. I love how they detail out the costs, and when adjustments are made also show areas where the savings happen. My biggest struggle is fighting the urge to take a sledgehammer to my rental house! I've loved every episode...there is no way to pick a favourite! Way to go guys....can't wait for Season 2! I'm hoping when the time comes, I'll be able to work with the guys to get the home of MY dreams!
