lilsisasu Scarlett definitely continues the story of what happened the next day. It shows how Scarlett matures into a real woman. Even though I love Gone With the Wind, I always wanted to know what happened to Scarlett after the movie was over. That's why I'm so glad I found this miniseries. It really shows what happened next. I also like how you can tell that the actors are not trying to replace the original cast. They are portraying the characters in terms of how they think they should be portrayed. Another aspect that I like of the story is how I really began to feel what Scarlett was feeling. Some times when Scarlett what get mad or get upset about something, I would start to get mad or upset about the same thing. I think Scarlett is probably one of the few sequels that really was made well.
suzanne-90 This is one of the most cerebral insightful movies I have ever seen. The script language, costumes, scenery, plot, characters, etc. all are supreme. You will not be bored. I have watched intensely or even just listened to this movie while working so many times I have lost count. Scarlett ages gracefully, acquiring wisdom beyond her years in the end. This movie takes you from Tara to Ireland where her family is originally from and you see the results of another civil war played out there, this time between the Irish and English. This movie depicts the double standards of men at the time--a man is still respected if he has girlfriends and whores, but not a woman. If she is merely seen in a private place with a man society accuses her of impropriety. And of course Scarlett was always thinking outside the box, breaking rules when necessary to create needed change, help people, and/or survive.Scarlett's beauty definitely is to the bone. Her strength, self-esteem, and wisdom grow as she ages. I remember her lines when I am confronted with too much on my plate, such as, "tomorrow is another day," and the way she carried herself, her determination and courage, and have learned from her experiences. This is a good movie to show your daughters as it teaches a woman how important it is to have respect for yourself, and that men, especially very handsome ones, can have two sides and may treat a woman differently, depending on how she acts and respects herself. An attractive woman needs to learn what this movie teaches. This movie is like therapy to me, and it is better than Gone with the Wind. The second part takes place in Ireland and anyone who is of Irish decent will cherish the scenery, people, and Scarlett's character within it.
lichenu I am insulted and angry over the idea that a sequel to 'Gone with the Wind' should EVER have been undertaken. Having expressed that, I have no problem with the quality of the acting or the actors in this film. The performers are talented people whose talents were wasted on this piece of garbage. The hype surrounding this book and film just happens to be an exercise in futility. I think it will go down as one of the misguided films of Hollywood. I don't believe that the beloved characters created by Margaret Mitchell should have been soiled by the ideas and interpretations of another writer. The film and the book should be on the list of worst ideas conceived in the world of publishing and film-making. The sad thing is that people actually made money off of this tripe.
Anni Shepherd "Scarlett" is better than I expected. Better, but still NO good. At least not, if you compare it to "Gone With The Wind". Yet, in it's own right, it is tolerable. My first reaction was : "I hate this" and/or "I'm laughing my head off." As I struggled to watch the first hour, I dwelled upon the horridness of the mini-series, which was to me the most horrible, ridiculous sacrilege I could ever imagine. But the next day as I continued to watch the series, I changed my attitude. Even though I still consider some scenes more or less ridiculous (such as Rhett appearing at the costume ball, dressed as Blackbeard...) I found "Scarlett" to be quite entertaining. It is a bit too long, and a bit too melodramatic/ soap-opera -like for my taste, it was OK. The acting is moderately good, Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable are a tough act to follow, and Joanne Whalley- Kilmer and Timothy Dalton don't even come close. But it's fair to say, they have their moments. My favorite moments in Scarlett include for example the scene where Scarlett looks at herself in the mirror and refuses to believe it really is herself she is seeing there. That is IMHO, one of J. W-K's finest moments. The only problem with her is, I don't feel she looks the part. Her eyes are too big, and I don't find her charming at all. Her character however, is rather suitable. Not quite, but close enough. All in all, she makes a good Alexandra Ripleys Scarlett, but even with the character developing and all, she is definitely NOT Margaret Mitchells Scarlett. Not even close. Same goes for Rhett. Timothy Dalton might be Good, but not as good as he should be. Anyway I have to say, that the costumes and settings are absolutely splendid! Everything has been done with the greatest care and attention, and that's exactly what I love.In the end, "Scarlett" really isn't all that bad, but it did take A LOT of time for me to get use to it. So if you're looking for GWTW 2, you will be brutally disappointed. But if all you want is entertainment, LENGTHY, NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY and spiced with plenty of melodrama, "Scarlett" is just the thing for you! Yes, 5/10 is the highest score I can possibly give.
